Super Bowl XLIV

That is all...

UPDATE: Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints.

I must say, this was one of the better Super Bowls I’ve seen.  Good football.  Two likable teams.  Two great QBs.  Great coaching on the Saints’ side and good coaching for the Colts.  Good refereeing and they let the players play.

Good game.

  1. Has it actually started, or are five ex-players/ex-coaches in loud ties waxing on for nine hours nostagically about millionaires playing catch with each other?

And has it really, really started, or are they still explaining the meaning of one side of the coin or the other, which is being flipped by some has-been, broken down, ex-jock?

And has it really, really, really started, or are they still introducing each player, coach, referee, equipment personal, wives of the players and coaches, and every single person in the stadium?

And has it really, really, really, really started, or are F-16s, fireworks, flags, rock and roll music, special effects, smoke machines, marching bands, cheerleaders, military personnel, and guests of honor still going on right now?

And has it really, really, really, really started, or is it just a constant bombardment of crappy and not so amusing $2 million dollar commercials?

Has it really started, and if so, when is it over?

  2. Dude. What’s up with posting the same comments on multiple sites? If you don’t like it, don’t watch.

  3. It was also good play by both teams. There was a little bit of bumping after five yards that was wisely ignored because the current rule is completely stupid, but other than that, there were very few flags and almost nothing that was missed. The 2-point conversion did look from the first angle like it didn’t work, but the other cameras showed a good challenge. Congratulations to all, particularly the Saints.

No more paper bags for your fans.

So much bitterness, jealousy, nerdiness, and resentment all in one comment. Very impressive. Not sure if that is supposed to be a poem or what, but you really come off as a curmudgeon here.

  7. Was this the worst year for SB commercials ever? I can’t think of one I even remotely liked.

Yeah, they were really off this year.

  9. The only ad that I really liked was the Audi ‘Green Police’ Ad.

  10. I found the Focus on the Family ad somewhat insightful. The ad itself was just a football player and his mom for about 15 seconds. If you didn’t watch closely you missed it. Nothing said about abortion, right to life or any such cause. Interesting how the ‘freedom of choice’ nuts went off the left edge of the earth over it.

Is it just my imagination, or did just about all the really close playoff games this season end with an interception in the last couple of minutes of the game?

  11. The Snickers Betty White ad was my favorite. I love Betty.

  12. The Doritos commercial with the dog collar was pretty funny…

  13. The doritoes commercial with the little kid that slaps the guy and gives him the 2 rules. the best i have seen in years.

  14. I loved the commercial for the AUDI A3 Tdi… #1 Cool car, #2 I love the fact that Volkswagen is willing to poke fun at the jackboot thug environmentalists!

  16. I would like to know why the Colts stopped playing after the first quarter? There strategy noticeably changed.

    Heh - easily amused.

  18. Manning was changing plays at the line like he was desparate. Sometimes that works and sometimes it shakes the confidence of the players and leads to mistakes.

Brees seemed confident and his team did too.  That play at the goal line for the 2 pt conversion where the player was upside down and still made sure the ball crossed the line was nothing short of a miracle.  Can’t practice that.

  20. The Who sounded horrible, I thought he was going into cardiac arrest the first two songs. Its just not right when a van from the senior center drops off the band. Was the drummer a grandson?

  21. The drummer was trying desperately to channel Kieth Moon. Too hard, I thought. The Who sucked. 65 yo men should not sing The Who songs regardless of whether they actually wrote/originally performed them. It was embarassing and laughable.

  22. I thought the game was great - the two best teams playing a hard, clean, and close game. I’m happy for the Saints.
As to the Who, they reminded me of a cover band.
Best commercial - Dave, Jay, and Oprah.

  23. Good competitive game. Good commercials (Snickers Betty White, Audi Green Police, Danica, Doritos dog collar, Man’s last stand Dodge Charger..all funny stuff). Elderly Rock Band with good light show, Wings, Guacamole, and it bugged the snot out of Pelican Pants.

All in all, a fantastic Super Bowl!!
