We all knew that someone would eventually want to pump tax money into this, right?
The Wisconsin Covenant program should include state-funded scholarships for low-income students to improve their college attendance and completion, according to the study by University of Wisconsin-Madison researchers. The study suggests Wisconsin model its plan after a successful program in Indiana.
Doyle proposed the Covenant in 2006, and lawmakers created an office to run the program in the current budget. Eighth-graders who sign a pledge to get good grades during high school and meet service and behavior requirements are guaranteed admission to a Wisconsin college, though not necessarily their top choices.
Covenant scholars may qualify for grants from two new private sources, but otherwise they receive only state and federal financial aid that’s available to all students.
Hmmm… let’s see… UW releases a study that says that more tax dollars should be spent in its institution.
And, um, isn’t the UW president already making over $1 million per year?
I support more tax dollars for higher education, but we also need more oversight. Ugh. I just realized this was a right-wing blog. Sorry about that. Tax dollars and oversight aren’t welcome here.
Which “deep spending CUT” will this fall under?
