Student Association at UWM Accused of Theft

Lovely.

In 2005, the Student Association at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee held a fund-raiser for the Healing Center, a Milwaukee organization that serves victims of sexual abuse and rape.

Hundreds of students turned out to buy baked goods and T-shirts that read “Love-Your-Body.”

But the Healing Center never saw the proceeds, as much as $1,000, according to audits of the student government released last week.

The audits, by university officials, found thousands of dollars in potential theft, fraud and other illicit activities during the past couple of years. Almost all of it happened under the watch of Russell Rueden, a former student leader under investigation in connection with the embezzlement of $10,000.

  1. There is nothing new under the sun.  Student government should be abolished.
