Stimulus Bill Creates Jobs Prior to Passage

Aren’t there already people in the state government whose job this is?

Gov. Jim Doyle today signed an executive order creating a new Office of Recovery and Reinvestment to advise him and other state officials on how to spend what is expected to be more than $2 billion from a federal economic stimulus package.

[...]

Doyle said the 15-person agency will work on understanding how state and local projects can qualify for the most federal aid possible, recommend changes in purchasing and procurement rules so the federal money can go for building projects immediately and advise state officials what rules and regulations must be changed to qualify for the money.

  1. This ultimately (should) reflect VERY poorly on Doyle.  Hasn’t he been running the Department of Commerce, the Department of Transportation, the Office of the Railroad Commissioner, the Office of Veterans Affairs, and the Department of Workforce Development, all of which have a hand in economic development activities?

For seven years, Doyle has ran around the state like Ed McMahon handing out oversized checks to grant and contract recipients, all of which he assures us has helped our state economy.

Some reporter should simply ask: why wasn’t the state in a situation to better weather the economic downturn?  Does he not bear some blame for the current challenges facing Wisconsin?

Moreover, lest we forget that gem Forward Wisconsin that liberals love to proclaim as the more effective arm of business recruitment and retention as opposed to the WMC.  FW regularly advocates for higher spending and more government-love than does the WMC.

This new office will ultimately end up being a sham, just like Doyle’s ACE initiative.(http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/ic/blogs/NEWpolitics/2008/04/ace-initiative-to-be-audited.html)

  2. The people who are coming out well on this are Paul Ryan and Scott Walker.  They have been telling everyone what a “pig in a poke” that this bill is and now we know it to be true. This is not a stimulus bill but a payoff for all of the groups that elected Obama.
Most of the money will-not be spent for two years and the result will be rabid inflation like the days of Jimmy Carter.
Right on Scott and Paul, lead the way.

  3. Tell you what, I’ll put together a 5-person team, and we’ll do that exact same job for half of whatever Governor Doyle is planning to spend.
