Stick, Meet Dead Horse

From ESPN.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress and quarterback Brett Favre plan to meet at an undisclosed location later this week to discuss the possibility of the former Packers and Jets quarterback renouncing his retirement from the NFL to play the 2009 season with the Vikings, according to a source with direct knowledge of discussions between the two parties.

There is a mutual understanding that sometime soon thereafter Favre will decide whether to sign with the Vikings. The team would expect him to participate fully in offseason minicamps and training camps, which he missed last year with the Jets.

  1. Looks like I’ll have to buy another #4 jersey.

  2. Eh.  I love what Brett Favre did for the Packers, and I look forward to his induction into the Hall of Fame, but I don’t have the energy to get emotionally invested in his drama anymore.  I have enough of my own.

  3. He’s hurt now, and it won’t get better.

  5. I’m not sure I buy that he is hurt.  Loved watching him for 16 years, but I’m so tired of his prima donna ways.  I hope he signs with the Vikes and spends the two games with us either throwing picks or laying on his back with Raji and Pickett on top of him wink

  6. I love it. Nothing better than seeing a dick and a group of dicks, Favre and Packer fans, go at it again.

No offense, Jed. You guys don’t know what it’s like to live a fart’s blow from Lambeau.

  7. As a viking fan i hate favre with a passion.
but a chance to stick it in the eye of packer fans by beating you guys 2 times.
and going deep in the playoffs and watching the packers suffer a losing season im all for it.
I like drama free times but it looks like this will play on until favre says no no no no.

  8. Hey, bigdog, what do you call a Viking with a Super Bowl ring?

    A thief!

Good luck to the Purple Losers.  You folks deserve Favre.

  9. And ANOTHER thing, bigdog—What does it say about the Vikings that it takes a washed-up has-been to ignite optimism in the team’s long-abused and irrational fans?  What a bunch of losers!  And I’m not just typing about the team!

  10. Assuming this is a revenge thing, would Favre actually cry if he went out and threw 5 INTs against the Packers?

Watching someone get revenge is fun, but watching someone being thwarted attempting a delusional revenge is even more fun.

  11. I’m pretty tired of this. Favre needs professional help for his hate of the Packers, and some Pack fans need surgical help to remove their lips from Favres butt.

  12. I live in GB and I’m sick and tired of this.  Last year was too much and now it’s going to be the same thing over again.  Local TV had interview with some of the players when this rumor hit the other day and they were smiling, saying it would be great to play (ie tackle) against him.  I would like nothing more than to see them smash his sorry a** on the turf, maybe they would have to have the cart haul him off.  I hope it’s a long long time before they ever think of honoring him and retire his jersey.  This guy could have had the moon here in GB but his huge ego threw it all away.  Now excuse me while I throw up because I can’t stomach him anymore.  Somebody needs to do him a favor and get out the hook, tell him it’s over and to get the hell off the stage.

  13. Ah, nothing beats the escapism of professional sports.

Brett Favre was undoubtedly the most over-rated player in the history of the NFL.

Dozens of quarterbacks over the past couple decades could have easily rivaled his statistics if they were willing to suffer the disgrace of being one of the most prolific interception throwers in NFL history too.

Brett Favre’s career was made on 2 things.  The blind and unequaled obsession of “packer nation” for their team, and a reckless, “too dumb to know better” attitude of Brett Favre.

Add to that the starvation of a couple decades of living in the basement of the NFL with losing team after losing team.  Hell, starve people long enough they’ll think ramen noodles are caviar.  Thats was Brett Favre was to packers fans.

And now…  I don’t know if its the media or fans.  Its hard to tell, but like a guy who gets dumped that can’t get over his ex-girlfriend even though she really wasn’t the greatest girlfriend, it seems like people can’t get over Brett Favre.

16 years and only 1 championship?  hmm…  I think Brett Favre cost you guys more games than he won for you.

  14. Professional sports are simply entertainment.  Having a nut job like Favre out there is certainly entertaining.

I won’t be suprised if Favre doesn’t make it to week 12.  Most of his success came from his improvisational skills and his arm strength.  Everyone’s mobility slows down as they age and now Favre has an injured throwing arm.  This could go from an intesting side show to a pathetic sad story pretty quickly.

Favre is going to keep playing until someone tells him he can’t play anymore.  I suspect somewhere towards the end of this season the Vikings coaching staff is going to have to decide whether or not they should bench an aging INT machine or let him finish out the season and keep his ridiculous consecutive start streak alive.  How ever it plays out it will be entertaining to witness.

  15. Bret who?  Seriously, to Bret Favre I say:  Bring it on!  Come into Lambeau sporting Minnesota purple and white….it’ll match your skin color as you choke.  I admired Favre when he was a Packer, and he was a great quarterback…now the dude just grates with his going-to-pay-Ted-Thompson-back line of jive.  I like Aaron Rodgers [sp?], and I’m more than sure he can stand up to Favre.
