U.S. doctors have found the Bee Gees 1977 disco anthem “Stayin’ Alive” provides an ideal beat to follow while performing chest compressions as part of CPR on a heart attack victim.
Hat tip The Jolly Hot Giant.
Don’t tell that to Andy Gibbs’ phlebotomist.

So long as the song is 100 beats per minute, it works.
Other such notable and usable tracks include ‘Heartbeat’ by Seduction; ‘Change of Heart’ by Change; and ‘Hangin’ on a String’ by Loose Ends; and ‘Back to Life’ by Soul 2 Soul.
But I’m quite sure you white people don’t remember those tunes. ![]()
No, that’s not ironic. It’s fitting. It would be ironic if “Staying Alive” caused instant death. Or if the song with the perfect beat for CPR was some death-metal song.
Egad…for once I agree with JIJAWM.
Perhaps this will be a turning point in your life Mr. PP. I hope I can help.
Don’t hold your breath. But if you do, and you past out, I’ll be right there with my boom box and funky tunes.
Oops…I meant, “pass out”, not “past out”.
I loved the Bee Gees….and even had the Andy Gibb poster.
I may save your lives one day.
I have a little clinical experience directly applicable along these lines.
I have performed CPR twice. Neither time was the procedure performed to the beat of ‘Staying Alive.’ Both victims died.
Do you need any further proof?
