State Splurges on Land Acquisition During Budget Crisis

For those who keep insisting that we conservatives name some spending to cut out of the state budget, let’s start with this:

A major land acquisition that will provide new hunting and recreational opportunities in southeastern Wisconsin was approved today by the Natural Resources Board.

The board approved, 6-0, a deal to spend $10.8 million to purchase 970 acres from the owner of the Rainbow Springs resort, which hugs the the Mukwonago River in Waukesha and Walworth counties.

The deal is the most expensive ever in southern Wisconsin and had been the subject of negotiation since 2004.
