Some Tosa Teachers Disgrace Themselves

The teachers who do this should be ashamed of themselves.

Some teachers may cut back on their participation in after-school activities this school year because the Wauwatosa Education Association, the teachers union, doesn’t have a voluntarily agreed-upon contract with the district.

The district imposed the Qualified Economic Offer this summer that gives teachers the same benefits they received under their old contract and gives them a total compensation increase of 3.8 percent.

Brent said a lot of teachers are cutting back on volunteering for after-school activities and writing letters of recommendation for students.

I don’t mind them not volunteering for after school activities.  After all, nobody should be forced to volunteer.  But withholding letters of recommendation from students punishes the students for a fight between the union and the school board.  Any teacher who refuses to write a letter of recommendation for a good kid because of a union tiff is a disgrace.  They should be fired immediately because they obviously don’t give a crap about the kids.

  1. I could not agree with you more.  This is not only disgrace, but it is a discredit to their integrity as teachers.  They obviously feel the kids should be punished right along with school board.  Shame on them.  Firing would be absolutely appropriate.

    Speak up, Wauwatosa parents!

  2. But it’s all about the kids…

Please - it’s all about their paycheck.

  3. Teachers are supposed to be dedicated. Students first before anything else.

  4. I love government education!!  What a bunch of phoney fools.  I would be happy to get almost a 4% raise.  This just shows you it’s not for the children as they love to claim.  I don’t care about the volunteer work, get out of the schools and let someone who really cares volunteer.  But to punish the students by not writing letters of recommendation is disgusting.

  6. As a teacher and a product of Tosa schools, I find this to be disgusting and unprofessional. Yes, they should be fired if they refuse to write a letter of recommendation.  Each teacher has a prep time that they can do this and in addition, each teacher probably has a earlier start time than the first bell and they are not allowed to leave after the final bell, so there is time to write the letters of recommendation.

  8. Teachers and nurses have about the same amount of education.  Who has the tougher job?  Longer hours?  Works weekends, has less vacation, lower benefits, cannot be fired, has worse pensions benefits and has poorer salaries?
Why should government employees get paid more, have better vacations, bennies and pensions?

  9. Being a teacher is a tougher job, but this is not an excuse for being discredit to their integrity as teacher

  10. Teacher tougher than being a nurse?  Not in this lifetime.  My wife was teacher and I taught in reform school in LaCrosse for summer.
