Senator Stevens Guilty

Good.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens was convicted of seven corruption charges Monday in a trial that threatened to end the 40-year career of Alaska’s political patriarch in disgrace. The verdict, coming barely a week before Election Day, increased Stevens’ difficulty in winning what already was a difficult race against Democratic challenger Mark Begich. Democrats hope to seize the once reliably Republican seat as part of their bid for a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate.

It’s a shame that the GOP allowed this crook to remain in office so long that now it may lead to the Dems holding a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate.  Politicians have lost any ability to take a longer view of the world.

  1. It was good that the decision came before the election. This is a warning to all voters. Choose wisely.

  2. Hopefully Don Young gets the boot as well. He’s down 8 points.

It’s a shame that Parnell didn’t beat Young in the primary.

  3. What is shameful is that Steven’s didn’t resign and allow Palin to pick his replacement with enough time to mount an effective campaign.

Another example of someone who has spent too much time in Washington.

  5. I understand that the method to replace US Senators for Alaska has changed, due to former Governor Murkowski selecting his own daughter to replace him when he was elected Governor.

I understand that a special election is now required.
