Senator Clinton for Secretary of State?

Actually, she’d probably be pretty good at the job as long as she can swallow her own agenda and just implement the president’s.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is among the candidates that President-elect Barack Obama is considering for secretary of state, according to two Democratic officials in close contact with the Obama transition team.

Clinton, the former first lady who pushed Obama hard for the Democratic presidential nomination, was rumored to be a contender for the job last week, but the talk died down as party activists questioned whether she was best-suited to be the nation’s top diplomat in an Obama administration.

The talk resumed in Washington and elsewhere Thursday, a day after Obama named several former aides to President Bill Clinton to help run his transition effort.

  1. It certainly would be interesting to be a fly on the wall in the cabinet meetings.
I don’t think it will happen, both of those egos are way to big to be in the same room or administration.

  2. Obama’s smart, trying to lure HRC out of the Senate, where she will submarine his program at every available opportunity…

  4. I’d rather get rid of the feckless Harry Reid and have Hillary as the Senate Majority Leader, where I think she’d be great.

Honestly, I don’t see her anywhere in the Obama administration.

  5. Not sure why she would have to follow the president’s agenda, State didn’t seem to pay much attention to the wants of the current admin.

  6. Hillary’s name got floated as majority leader before this.  I bet Harry Ried is behind this rumor.  He wants her out of the Senate. SecState is one of the few positions that would do it.

Another thing to remember, Bill once wanted to be a Supreme Court Justice.

  8. Hillary has a better shot of being on the Supreme Court than in an O administration. It would be the perfect place for O to tuck her away.

If that’s the actual list of candidates, it’s very interesting.  Funny, didn’t see Diamond Jim’s name on it.

Also looks like the Colin will receive payment for his endorsement.

I think HRC would be a much better choice for SecState than many of the alternatives.

  11. She’s okay, but who believes she’s more qualified than Bill Richardson?  I mean, what’s her qualifications, really?  She’s got a ball-busting personality, sure, but what else?  She’s a junior senator and a former first lady.  Unlike Obama himself, she isn’t gifted with great leadership skills and remarkable vision.  Absent that, she’ll has to run on her resume, and there’s a few other resumes out there that make better reading.

  12. Is Sec. of State woman’s work?  If he did pick her three of the last 4 sec’s of states would be women.  It is great that there are no longer gender disparities in cabinet appointments, but with the reality of woman as still a significant minority in federal politics it is kinda odd that woman could dominate that one cabinet position.

    Just a thought.

  13. She would never take the position.    It’s a position where she would get the blame for every domestic problem the administration has and none of the credit for any success.

Hillary can see the writing on the wall.  She would much rather position herself for a 2012 run at the presidency.    This means being neither SOS nor senate leader.  She will instead take independent stances on ikey ssues to allow her to better position herself for 2012.

  14. Absolutely a perfect role for the Hildebeast..  It improves her Resume, and helps get her out of all the stupid senate decisions that Obama will want to get passed.  If she isn’t happy she can always go back to run for Gov of New York in 2010. and then she’ll be the most qualified person to run against Obama in 2012, and unseat him.  At least if she is happy as S.o. S. he protects his most vulnerable Flank.  And it protects her from Domestic issues which will be the most dangerous in the next 2 year.
I think it’s smart for BHO and HRC,  I mean that sincerly.
