School Supplies

It’s that time of year: school supplies are in stores!

Once again, we have to refinance the mortgage to buy supplies for the kids (many of those supplies end up coming home still in the original package). Of course, the kids will be able to reuse some of last year’s supplies, but below the fold is what our list looks like for four kids (three in grade school, one in high school):

I don’t know what it is about Sharpies that fascinates teachers, but I don’t think I ever touched one until I was an adult. Not sure why the kids need Sharpies of varying widths to get through the school year. I love school supply shopping, but a lot of the items are unnecessary.

  1. Holy Cow!!!  And I thought our school supply list was crazy!

  2. That list has but one purpose:  Those parents who buy the complete list will find that their children are expected to “share” with the rest of the class.

The school district knows that most parents will buy the list, relieving them from the need to stock supplies.  Wouldn’t want those administrators to take a pay cut now, would we.

  4. Yep, it’s actually the lists for a private grade school and a private high school.

I think they just take a list of everything they “might” need and throw it on. And I HATE, HATE, HATE buying tissues for every kid in school. I would much rather send a little tissue packet for my own kids to use and replenish it as needed.

I know that some kids have to bring reams of printer paper and bottles of hand sanitizer. I’m glad our school hasn’t reached that level…yet.

  7. The Wisconsin Supreme Court has held that the state’s ban on concealed weapons did not apply to a shop owner in Milwaukee who had a gun to protect his business, which had been robbed at gunpoint numerous times.

  8. The shool supply lists I get are very similar.  However, I learned that 90% of the supplies asked for get shoved into the school’s main supply closet.  At the end of the school year they don’t send home what wasn’t used, so it’s new calculators, headphones, staplers, scissors…..every fall.  And if a child needs a notebook in the middle of the school day, he goes to the supply closet and is charged for whatever supply is needed.
