Restricting Emergency Powers

Excellent...

Gov. Jim Doyle has signed a bill that prevents government officials from seizing people’s guns in a crisis.

State law until now had granted the governor, the Wisconsin National Guard’s commander and local officials broad emergency powers during an enemy attack or disaster.

The new law says they can’t use those powers to restrict the possession, transfer, transport, storage or use of guns and ammunition.

  1. What is he going to get for signing this probably insignificant bill into law?  His budget fix?  The recent Virtual School troubles?  More taxes?

note:  In insignificant, I don’t mean that it’s not an important right to protect, but insignificant in that there’s only remote chances of this right being infringed.

  2. remote chance - True, but he can tout the legislation as supporting gun-owner rights and capture those votes for the next election.

  3. I bet this was very difficult for him although he knew he had to sign it.

If he had his way nobody in this state would have any firearm save for a double barrel shotgun.  The man is a totalitarian gun banner from way back.  Some may recall, as AG he fought hard against the Amendment to the Wisconsin Constitution giving us the “right to keep and bear” in 1998.

  4. You Doyle-haters are hysterical.  The man can’t even sign a bill into law which you support without being criticized!

Lighten up—the man is NOT the devil incarnate, not even close!  You should have heard Ted Kanavas singing his praises in the Senate yesterday as he bashed Senate Dems for their nutty anti-business posture.  Ted gave props to the Guv, for being correct on economic development policies.
