The corporate parent of Midwest Airlines plans to add up to 800 jobs over the next year in Milwaukee and Oak Creek, including 400 positions that are being consolidated from outside Wisconsin, rebuilding Midwest’s hub at Mitchell International Airport and doubling the local workforce.
Indianapolis-based Republic Airways Holdings Inc. will shift around 400 positions to Mitchell International and Midwest’s Oak Creek offices from Las Cruces, N.M., and Denver, said Chief Executive Officer Bryan Bedford said Tuesday.
It is sad to realize we’ve lost 2,600 jobs from Midwest airlines the past few years.
Interesting to note that the decision was made partly on tax incentives Wisconsin offered.
Those Frontier jets are nice albeit with zero leg room. At least they are new and safe Airbus aircraft with the personal TV service. We’ll get a lot of good west coast destinations with those jets even though some may require a stop in Denver.
27 million in tax credits…. Real nice. Taxpayers get screwed again.
This parasitic trend of buying jobs with monster corporate welfare is not good for prosperity.
Small business is the largest employer in this country and they are being hurt by the increased burden of taxes that are funding big business who can hold jobs ransom.
It defies economic logic to reward businesses (ahem, mercury marine) who cannot be profitable and sustain themselves on their own.
Everyone wants to cheer for 800 jobs. I would to, IF those jobs came here for good reason. They didn’t.
If 27 million in tax incentives was not the deciding factor then whomever offered 27 million is a SUCKER that has no faith in wisconsin OR realizes that wisconsin is a tax hell if you don’t provide privileged tax incentives to businesses who offer politicians a pubilc relations gold-star-moment with a large number of jobs.
This bodes well for the airline but further drives wisconsin’s fiscal future into the ground promising job-killing tax hell for all the businesses that provide good jobs but just don’t have the critical mass to make the evening news.
So yeah… cheer your heart out Milwaukee welcoming 800 jobs in the front door. Hold your presser Mayor Barrett and pat yourself on the back Diamond Jim for the 800 jobs you can hang your hat on, while thousands of jobs are flowing out the back door. The reality is wisconsin faces even greater fiscal mismfortune because you continue to try to tax and purchase prosperity.
Now if you want to provide tax cuts across the board to all businesses (not just the select few who provide you a podium on the 5 oclock news) while restraining government spending to keep individual taxes from rising to make up the revenue, you’ll be on to something.
Doyle and Barrett are pathetic salespeople for Wisconsin. They are the cats that come back to the office and brag about landing a big account. Then you look at the numbers and see that they won the business by hacking the price to unprofitable levels.
Anyone could have done that.
If doyle and barrett had any business experience instead of spending their entire lives in a brief tolken law stint and then career-government, they’d learn how to sell value.
They’d have ‘done the math’ and figured out how much more advantageous cost wise it would be for Republic to have their hub here instead of Denver and go to the table with THAT and prove to Republic that THEY know what republic already knew, and that was Milwaukee is a more profitable location.
Instead they go to the table like a bunch of impotent gimps with a fist full of someone elses money.
That’s a great news. However, if you still got no job, you can join Freelancer.com. It has many projects that you can do. Here, use this code PLANVIEW to get more benefits from the site. Thanks.
Move to another job means ready to be placed under a new environment and find a new sensation, but with a new challenge too. But love those circumstances.
This is some kinds of good news. This will reduce the unemployment in the city and settle poverty and increase local earnings.
