Rep. Wood Cashes In His Chips

Remember this story?

Democrats in the state Assembly said they’ll welcome former Republican Jeff Wood with a committee leadership post if they win the majority this fall.

Wood announced last week he no longer wanted to be a Republican and filed to run for re-election as an independent. Wood said Republicans blacklisted him because he was too independent a charge GOP leaders have denied.
State Rep. Mark Pocan, D-Madison, is heading up Democrats’ campaign efforts. He said his party is inclusive and would welcome anyone.

Pocan denied anyone offered Wood a committee chair position in exchange for dropping out of the GOP.

I called BS at the time and I was right.

Madison—Assembly Speaker-elect Mike Sheridan (D-Janesville) today named chairs of 31 Assembly committees, and made the first independent member of the Legislature elected in decades—Rep. Jeff Wood—chairman of the Ways and Means Committee.

Rep. Wood sandbagged the GOP in the election by his last minute switch to Independent and in return he has secured for himself a Chairmanship.  The man lacks integrity.

  1. Good. Maybe more people will abandon both parties and run as independents.

  2. Geez, are you going to predict which direction the sun is going to come up from next?

There is a cost to having leadership that doesn’t know which end is up. Wood’s seat, Musser’s seat, the ocean of money that went down the crapper trying to retain Terry “Hates knocking on doors” Moulton’s seat.

I hope Don Moga runs again. Wood has a boatload of integrity compared to that guy.

  3. So they give him a Chair of a worthless committee.  How much you want to bet that the Speaker doesn’t send any bills to his committee?

  4. Looks like Wood started celebrating his new chairmanship…
