Rep. Wood Arrested for OWI and Pot Possession

Nice

Rep. Jeffrey Wood, an independent from Bloomer, was arrested early Friday by the Wisconsin State Patrol.

A deputy at the Columbia County Jail says Wood was booked on charges of operating while intoxicated-first offense and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

  1. This is good. Let’s start on the pool on when he resigns - or if you prefer that he won’t resign….

  2. He won’t resign.  He’s just another in a long line of elected officials busted for DUI.  His mug shot is rather funny, though.

  3. Really - old GoldSchalger was at least intoxicated with a legal substance. This guy had drugs and paraphernalia on him too.

I find it hard to believe that he will stay in office.

  6. He’s just ‘declined’ his chairmanship of the Ways and Means committee according to reports now out.

Let us not forget - He’s now Sheridan and Pocan’s problem now.  Man’s not in the GOP caucus anymore.

  7. Ahh, yes…the all-powerful ‘Ways and Means’ committee.

  8. You got me there. I have no idea what that committee does on the State level.

  9. Nothing, as all tax and spending items are handled by the Joint Finance Committee.

  10. Wood did not immediately return phone messages left at his home and office. He told Newstalk 790 WAYY, a radio station in Eau Claire, that he had no plans to step down. He also tried to explain how marijuana ended up in his car.

Somebody offered me some and I took it, and for whatever stupid reason got in my car and decided to drive home,” he told the station.

Liar. Why didn’t he just say “I was just holding it for a friend”?

  11. That doesn’t make sense.  If someone offers you pot, do they also offer you the paraphernalia (pipe) that goes with it?  I think not.

  12. There is more here to this story than politics!

It is NOT OK to drink and drive.

Leave aside the fact that this guy makes the laws, and therefore should truly respect them.  The fact that he was putting other lives in danger over his desire to drive while intoxicated is really a chilling thought if you actually sit down and ponder it.  I know we hear this so often that we forget the real consequences to this type of behavior.  But drinking and driving has horrible effects on those that are impacted.

I hope not just to hear, ” I am sorry” from Rep. Wood.  Instead I want to hear more of a public discussion on ways to combat this social ill.  From those who run the establishments and make money on this matter, to those who belly up to the bar, there has to be a better appreciation for the consequences of drinking and driving.

  13. Wow - what an idiot. You are better off saying no comment than - yeah I took it and its mine - I don’t know why I did that…  Uh maybe you did it to smoke it with the bong you had in the seat next to the pot.

If the voters of his district don’t demand a recall - they get the representation that is due them…  Sounds like a bad episode of Cheech and Chong. “Oh Man - how did THAT get there!”

    Please.

  16. Apparently nobody is above the law and apparently possession of marijuana is still punished despite all the controversies on the drug. He should check a drug rehab center to loose the drug and the legal problem.
