Washington - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will announce today that he has endorsed a plan by Wisconsin Democrat Russ Feingold to end funding for the Iraq war by March 31 next year.
The measure goes well beyond the target withdrawal date that the Senate narrowly approved last week as part of an emergency war spending bill, and it is part of what Feingold describes as a legislative strategy by Democrats of steadily ratcheting up their anti-war proposals.
But at least it’s a serious proposal that is within the confines of the Senate’s constitutional authority.
Wonderful. I’ve written to Sen. Feingold a couple of times in regards to the war and he simply writes me back telling me why I’m wrong.
The man is smarmy. A small minded smarmy little man.
Posted by Kate on April 02, 2007 at 0932 hrsThey’re not waiting to see the results of the current proposals; Dingy Harry and Russ el-Slimeroad (Moonbat-Al Qaeda) are <a href=“http://feingold.senate.gov/~feingold/releases/07 /20070402.html”>pushing full-force for the certain-and-swift defeat option.

Posted by steveegg on April 02, 2007 at 1015 hrsIt’s not funding for the troops that should be curtailed. We should immediately stop giving any more money to Halliburton, which has been found to be overcharging and double-charging us to the tune of billions. Let’s see how long this war will drag on once we’ve starved the military industrial complex beast. Just switch over to other companies who can service the soldiers, and LET’S FINALLY BUY THEM THE DAMNED EQUIPMENT THEY NEED instead of using the money to pay Halliburton $45 per case of soda.

If the surge is not successful, we obiously are not going to be able to achieve a unilaterial MILITARY solution to the security problem in Iraq, therfore we should draw down troops as well.
Or would you rather

Jodi, I’ve written to Senator Feingold before as well - and while he did answer back to tell me that I was wrong and why he thought so .. at least he DID answer, with a personal reply. Our other Senator sent back .. a form letter thanking me for my letter.

Haw - Cathleen Dunn on her program this morning pronounced the surge a failure. As in “Well gosh it’s clear that the surge is a failure so now what” in that kinda cute kinda aw shucks down home way she has.
Posted by Brian on April 02, 2007 at 1218 hrsSuccess or failure what is the option? I put to all of you, look what is happening in the European Union. Is that what we want to happen here? Do we want muslim law? Do you want to live by the rule of the middle east? Some claim to want a dialog. What would you discuss? What sort of compromises would you make? Would you say that if you don’t blow us up we will cover all the women? How about if we promise to abolish the Jewish, Christian, Hindu, and other religions we can get them to leave us alone. What is the option? The world as a general whole comes from the position that you live, worship, work, and move as you wish within reason and that reason is quite lax. Would we say that in exchange for not getting beheaded, beaten, or blown up we would submit to some restrictions according to mohammad? If I came to your house and killed one of your children would you negotiate with me and allow me to take your wife as long as I didn’t come back and kill another? I think not.
I think that the problem is that some people have not personalized the problem. They truly believe that it will never affect them. I live in the midwest, who could possibly say that I can no longer eat pork? I am in California and no one could possibly prevent me from going to the beach. Have people been paying attention to what is going on? Whole groups in MN refusing to follow the law and demanding that they be given the right to discriminate, British citizens saying that British law needs to be changed to follow sharia law. Other groups taking over parts of france and burning it.
It is a slow invasion and I don’t think that people think it is going to matter much to them because it will never affect them. If we do not stop the tide that is forming then I am afraid that in our lifetime we will see a time where we will all look through the lens of the oppressed.
To those that claim that I am blowing things out of proportion, would you have thought that as an adult you would have to look over your shoulder to see if someone was putting a bomb in the garbage can at your mall? How about going on vacation and winding up part of a plane sized missile? Or maybe going to work and not making it because your bus is blown up or the subway is gassed? Not in my town you say? Well I think that the people who were involved with the above incidents thought the same thing.
Who are we compromising with? What are we going to give up as part of this compromise? Why would we have to give something up to stop the violent someone from doing us harm? I would much rather give my life to protect my family than imprison my family on the hope that the bad guys have a change of heart.
Posted by fishaddict on April 02, 2007 at 1407 hrsTell you what Owen. You can keep paying for this dumb assed mistake and the rest of us, excuse me, those most of us can sit this one out.
And fishaddict, this suck off of our resources and military capability has only made us more vulnerable, plus attacking a Muslim country has knocked those clerics sitting on the fence, off the fence. This is the gift that keeps on giving for al Qaeda.
Posted by (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on April 02, 2007 at 1425 hrsI’ll make you a deal, KR. We’ll pay for the wars, you pay for all the Taj Mahal schools, bloated civil servant payrolls and scammed-to-the-hilt social projects.
Of course, your side will run out of money first.
Posted by steveegg on April 02, 2007 at 1816 hrsAnd if you want to trot out the “rest of us” horse manure, take a gander at these numbers collated by Curt at Flopping Aces:
- A Bloomberg poll last month found that 61% of Americans believe withholding funding for the war is a bad idea, while only 28% believe it is a good idea.
- According to a March USA Today/Gallup poll, 61% of Americans oppose “denying the funding needed to send any additional troops to Iraq.”
- That poll also showed that only 20% of Americans want to withdraw the troops immediately.
- Public Opinion Strategies (POS) recently reported that a majority of voters (54%) oppose the Democrats imposing a reduction in troops below the level military commanders requested.
- A POS poll in February found that 59% of voters believe pulling out of Iraq immediately would do more to harm America’s reputation in the world than staying until order is restored.
- That POS poll also finds 57% of voters support staying in Iraq until the job is finished and “the Iraqi government can maintain control and provide security for its people.”
- According to a Time magazine poll also taken in March, only 32% want to withdraw the troops within the next year no matter what happens.
Oops.
Posted by steveegg on April 02, 2007 at 1847 hrsfishaddict, I completely agree with your assessment. I just finished reading Mark Steyn’s book America Alone, and it was the most eye-opening, hilarious, yet completely depressing experience I’ve had in a while. The demographics of the Muslim world vs. the West tell the whole story. We are 10-20 years away from Eurabia replacing Europe and the US is in the cross-hairs of the Islamofacists.
Posted by (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on April 02, 2007 at 1954 hrsBesides POS being a GOP organization the only poll that counts is the one from last November.
And steveegg, the cost of the Iraq debacle has well blown past anything unleashed by liberals.
What Taj Mahal schools? University School and Brookshields Academy are private.
Oh yeah, the public schools. Oh those schools. You mean usually the oldest public buildings in town.
If you are saying we are better off feeding this money into that meat grinder is productive, let me know where you’re getting your weed.
