Regional Cooperation

James Rowan has an interesting post about Milwaukee/Waukesha relations:

Hogging Water, Wanting Other People to Pay for Transit, Insisting Bus Riders Are More Important Than Car Drivers: Milwaukee’s Self-Defeating Approach To Waukesha

Something like that.

In Rowan’s mind, “regional cooperation” = “capitulation to whatever Milwaukee’s wants.”

UPDATE: It’s RowEn, not RowAn.  Than’s, James, for the correction.

  1. I suggest you reread the post so you can better understand it.

    Cheers.

  2. I’ll support “regional” cooperation when Milwaukee
    a) admits the deep tunnel was a mistake.
    b) Separates the sewers in Milwaukee to prevent overflows
    c) starts charging for sewer services by usage instead of property value.

That should be about 100 years after hell freezes over.

  3. In Rowan’s mind, “regional cooperation” = “capitulation to whatever Milwaukee’s wants.”

What it actually means is the same old crap

“regional cooperation” =  “Bend over Suburbs of Milwaukee”

It means that someone living in Mequon will pay a $275.00 water bill every 3 months, even though they only used 27 gallons of water.

The deep tunnel is a joke. Thanks Joe Greco, you little prick.. And the person who designed the combined sewers should be chucked right into the deep tunnel.

They only remedy I see is moving out of this tax hell.

  4. Combined sewers were very common when that section of Milwaukee (and other cities) were built. I’m not after the designer - I’m after the people who should be correcting the problem.

It should be quite obvious that the only time we have problems is when it rains. What happens when it rains - the rain water from the combined sewers overwhelms the septic system. If the rain sewers were not discharged into the septic system, there wouldn’t be a problem. You can’t build the deep tunnel “deep” enough to hold all the rainwater that falls over an entire city.

But you can’t get the suburbs to pay for separating the sewers in Milwaukee - so the deep tunnel idea was the way to get them to pay and it doesn’t even WORK! We wasted (and are wasting) billions for nothing.

If we get more than an inch of rain - they have to close the tunnel off from the combined sewers and all the sewage (both rain and septic) from Milwaukee go right into the lake.
