Ok, and what conclusions do you draw from this?
It looks to me that we’ve been policing the whole world with less people then China has for policing itself.
It also looks to me that we must get this debt and healthcare problem resolved in a way that keeps our military intact. I know that their are representatives in the house that are nervous about people back home if they agree to the principal agreement being worked on.
It would seem to me that our President should be gracious enough to address the nation from the Oval office to persuade the nation of why this is the best approach for the nation to take and what they can expect to come in the upcoming months.
A gracious President may also anticipate success for everyone by planning a party to celebrate the hardwork of all three branches involved in working on this problem. The party should be for all elected reps and their families and staff, no lobbyiest but plenty of media for the world to see it. They may invite their State Governors and assembly and Senate leaders. There should be from each State different foods, drink and what ever their reps deem appropriate.
Maybe throw in drawings, entertainment and plenty of patriotism.
Everything the President will have to get done will require everyones cooperation and effort in the upcoming months.
Thanks for posting this. I find it very insightful to know how countries stack up in terms of national defense.
It would be very interesting to look at a chart like this compiled just before WWII and during WWII.
Glad we won that one…
France??? Germany??? Bueller . . . Bueller?????
It seems like the American taxpayer has been carrying the water for those cheese eating surrender monkeys and other Eurotrash for decades now, especially in the sandier places in the world where the Europeans get their energy resources.

Hardly a fair comparison, especially when you look at who China’s neighbors are. Besides, if you look at it by population, they have quite a small military and let’s not even begin to compare military budgets. Ours is what, about 400 billion? I bet the Chinese budget is well under 100 billion. In fighting capacity, it has been well proven over the last century and a half that more money wins wars over more men every time. If there is an exception or two to this, that is exactly what it was, exceptional.
I would have liked NATO without the US to be in the comparison, rather than, or in addition to Britain as a stand alone. As Americans have been paying for (or at least heavily subsidizing)European defense for over 60 years, it should be noted what they do spend. Why we have not withdrawn every bit of military assets inside the EC is still a mystery to me.
Also, does the size of the Iranian army compared to its neighbors, most notably Iraq, bother anyone else? As we have cast ourselves as the world’s babysitter, the children with the most toys compared to their neighbors are so obviously going to have to have their toys taken away that we might as well just do it if we are staying over there. Does anyone believe that Iran will just sit on its military when we leave? Anyone?
Why we have not withdrawn every bit of military assets inside the EC is still a mystery to me.
Because any more cuts to our foreign bases would severely hamper our ability to operate worldwide. Logistics, logistics, logistics…
To put this into perspective for the gun-grabbers dreaming of the day the government will seize all of our guns, according to a state-by-state survey taken for the year 2006 by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, an estimated 10.7 million hunters pursued big game, such as deer and elk.
Continued maintenance of foreign bases will end our military’s ability to operate at all. There is no economic justification for a large peacetime military. Having ignored economic reality for 60 years we now have a reckoning to make.

I do understand logistics. The question is need. Look at the military chart. All of the larger militaries are in the East. I personally think we should not be the world police unless asked and paid for the service by the UN. Perhaps for a little while we were stand alone above the other powers on the earth. Economically, we no longer hold that crown alone. As long as the rest of the world refuses to pay us tribute, I think we have to accept a diminshed role in all things economic and that includes military.
If you go from making 100k a year to 80k a year, you have to drop your spending accordingly. If you keep your spending habits the same in some areas, you effectively lower your income for other areas even more. We can’t afford to be the world’s military if we are the only ones paying for it. Or you can ignore reality until you collapse fiscally.
Our military spending subsidizes the European welfare state. Europeans can afford free health care and nice pensions because they don’t spend on a military like we do. Shut down our bases in Europe and the Europeans will find the money to defend themselves and help with this so called “policing” Washington seems to be so fond of.
