Rangel Temporarily Steps Down From Chairmanship

If he had any ethical standards, he would resign permanently.  But, of course, he doesn’t have any standards

Rep. Charles Rangel announced Wednesday he will temporarily step down as chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, saying he didn’t want his ethics controversy to jeopardize election prospects for fellow Democrats.

The 20-term Harlem congressman held a news conference on short notice, telling reporters, “My chairmanship is bringing so much attention to the press, and in order to avoid my colleagues having to defend me during their elections, I have this morning sent a letter” asking House Speaker Nancy Pelosi “to grant me a leave of absence until such time as the ethics committee completes its work.

  1. The Lefties are easing him out.  To unceremoniously dump him would indicate they think he did something wrong.

  2. It’s official now.  Democrats hold themselves to a lower ethical standard than Republicans.

Well OK I guess it’s been official since the early 1960’s.

  4. I actually agree with you, Owen; Rangel should resign from his position.  The corporately sponsored trips are the least of his alleged transgressions.

  5. Rangel’s corruption is deep, pervasive and longstanding; at a minimum he should resign his Congressional seat.

  6. No standards? You are dead wrong there Owen. Most Democrats I know have not only one set of standards… but in fact two!

That makes em twice as good as conservatives, doesn’t it?

  7. If the issue was corporate funded trips F. Jim would have been long gone.

  8. ... and if the issue was real estate fraud Barack and Harry would both be in the lockup. What’s your point? That Rangel can commit fraud and massive tax evasion because you have some unproven partisan belief that a Republican did something you don’t like? Is that really your standard of ethics, Keith? Just admit that Rangel is a class one crook and maybe you’ll feel better about yourself.

Or are you trying in some ham handed way to actually defend Rangel?

Drain the swamp… lol. Nancy and her friends turned the swamp into a septic tank.
