Ouch.
“How race got into this thing is because Obama said ‘race,’” New York Rep. Charlie Rangel, one of the highest-ranking African-Americans in Congress, said in an interview on NY1.
“But there is nothing that Hillary Clinton has said that baffles me. I would challenge anybody to belittle the contribution that Dr. King has made to the world, to our country, to civil rights, and the Voting Rights Act,” said Rangel. “But for him to suggest that Dr. King could have signed that act is absolutely stupid. It’s absolutely dumb to infer that Doctor King, alone, passed the legislation and signed it into law.”
Rangel’s remarks came in response to Sunday comments from Obama, who told an audience at a Nevada campaign event: “I am baffled by that statement by the Senator. She made an ill-advised statement about Dr. King, suggesting that Lyndon Johnson had more to do with the Civil Rights Act. For them to somehow suggest that we’re interjecting race as a consequence of a statement she made, that we haven’t commented on, is pretty hard to figure out.”
We all knew this would get dirty if the Hildabeast started to loose. What fun to sit back and see them eat their own!!
Obama hasn’t got going yet. You should know he is a radical Chicago street fighter as much a disciple of Saul Alinsky as Hillary is.
Having reserved for themselves the title of “best thing to happen to black people since the prohibition of slavery”, the Clintons are now faced with someone with a more authentic claim to be a spokesman for the black people in this country. Predictably, the once untouchable icon MLK in the Clintons lexicon becomes less important as the primary reason for Civil Rights in the US, in favor of the goodhearted white Democrat.
A conservative saying precisely the same thing about LBJ’s role in the Civil Rights Act vs. MLK’s would bring about such howls of righteous indignation and condemnation from Rangel et al that ones head would spin.
But while we’re talking about who really was responsbile for the Civil Rights Act, it bears noting that it was Republicans who sided with LBJ over the objections of Southern Democrats like Al Gore Sr for example to get it passed.
What Hillary is finding out that identity politics can bite you on the arse.
So the party that uses “equality” as its slogan is the one using it to take stabs at eachother? Neither O’Bama nor Clinton would make a good president. Hillary is the same old thing with the same old name and O’Bama is clearly unqualified given his previous statements made on policies and very short record (in comparison with most). The Republican party is in no better shape. Unfortunately I might just withhold my vote, maybe vote for myself (LOL). I thought H. Clinton was getting it easy by the mass media and she is, but O’Bama’s seemingly free ride is truly ridiculous and quite biased. Both of these stem from them being minorities, both female and black. Now that Hillary is getting attacked it is clear who the media favorite is.
WRECK’EM TECH!!!
It is very painful to me to see Blacks of such calibre as that of NY Rep Rangel and BET’s Johnson contrubuting to the Hillary-Obama friction in a reckless manner. Johhnson’s sarcastic comments and Rangel’s choice of the words “stupid” and “dumb” in reference to Obama seems to me extremely unbefitting of people that one looks up to with such a high esteem. It leaves a lot to be desired of them. Although the two candidtes have now cooled off to focus more on the real issues, I believe Johnson and Rangel would have earned more honor from many Americans such as me if what they had chosen to do had been positively instrumental to that cooling off.
The Clintons are not very different from the Republicans when they used code words like Willie Horton in elections before. “Stupid”, “Drug Addict” are very clever code words to scare of white voters of a black candidate. The Clintons know fully well what they are doing - On the one hand, have Hillary talk about getting off dirty politics while have minions like Rangel put the code words out! Hope the white voting public has moved beyond codewords in this election.
“Stupid” is a code word? You’re reaching Nari. You’re voting O’Bama no matter what he does or what skeletons he might have, am I right?
Charlie Rangel and Ben Johnson are disgusting. Ben Johnson may be a billionaire…but the whole billion in singles couldn’t wash the slime and dirt off the poor excuse for a human being. Look him up. A real bottom feeder.
Charlie is looking out for Charlie.
I’ll tell you what is stupid, this whole confounded situation. Actually not so much the situatin as to the amount of attention and press it is getting. I have yet to see a story, blog or anything anywhere that delves into any candidates positions, plans or policies for more than a mere paragraph
It’s sad really, we could be discussing energy plans, or ways to fix healthcare. Instead we are bickering like spoiled children over pointless squabbles. No wonder we never gt anything in this country done, no wonder our economic system is going down the crapper. Wake up people, pay attention, start demanding answers from these people who claim to have them.
Your candidate has a plan? Well ask them what it is, don’t fight thier food fights for them.
Personally I am for Obama, he worried me for a minute with all this pointless drivel, but he got right back to message by calling for a truce so that we can all get back to the issues and stop this dumb conversation of he said she said.
It’s not about race. It’s about power.
Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would have no power if there were no racism.
Milwaukee’s hustlers masquerading as leaders in the black community (Junior McGee, Polly Williams, Lena Taylor, et al) would have no power without a conspiracy by the man to keep people down.
They claim racism is alive and well, but they are the ones who refuse to be color blind.
If there were no racism, what would they do? Who could they blame for their problems?
The Clintons are not very different from the Republicans when they used code words like Willie Horton in elections before.
It was Al Gore’s Campaign that found the Willie Horton issue and used it against Dukakis in the Democratic primaries. In any case, theres no need for code words. Dukakis’ furlough of murderer Horton was responsible for his rape and assault on a woman and her fiance. Hortons race was immaterial. Huckabee has a similar issue from his term as Arkansas governor that he will have to overcome.
