Randy Melchert to Run for 24th State Assembly Seat

Randy Melchert announced today that he is running for the Republican Nomination to fill the 24th Assembly Seat in the Wisconsin Legislature. Melchert filed the papers with the Government Accountability Board this morning and will be collecting nomination signatures starting June 1st. The 24th Assembly District
represents all of Butler and Germantown, most of Menomonee Falls, and parts of Richfield. The incumbent Representative Suzanne Jeskewitz announced on May 8th that she is retiring from the Legislature.

Melchert envisions a pro-life, pro-family, pro-growth Wisconsin. Melchert will be working to make Wisconsin an economic greenhouse attracting high quality corporations, jobs, and families. As posted on his website (www.randymelchert.com) Wisconsin has the seventh highest state and local tax burden according to The Tax Foundation. Melchert believes we need to stop raiding settlements and reserved funds to pay for our out-of-control budget. With aggressive spending controls we can begin to reduce taxes, and thereby revitalize the state economy.

“The average household in Menomonee Falls will give Madison $77,672.07 in income and sales taxes over the next ten years if things do not change. Our out of control tax-and-spend philosophy is stunting our growth and diminishing our federal role. Wisconsin has lost almost one-third of its congressional seats in the past eight censuses.”

Melchert said. “The president’s temporary stimulus package may help the nation for a little while, but Wisconsin needs a permanent stimulus package in the form of a massive personal and corporate income tax cut. Immediate cuts in taxes and spending will help make Wisconsin an economic greenhouse.”

Melchert is a life-long 4th Generation Menomonee Falls resident. He has a master’s degree from Trinity International University in Deerfield, IL; and is also completing a master’s in Rhetoric and Public Address. He also is the owner of Quad Cities Media, which operates the full power radio station WKBF-AM in Rock Island, IL.

  1. Owen,

I seem to remember that Ms. Jeskewitz was a strong Repulican canidate when she first was elected, she ended up being a RINO.  Lets hope the same things doesnt happen to Mr. Melchert, after being fed into the special interest meat grinder.

  2. Curious how his website no longer mentions that he got his Bachelor’s Degree from Bob Jones University.  But it used to…

Just what the Republican caucus needs - another religious wacko who’ll push a bunch of issues that conservatives will never make any progress on.  He also can’t seem to figure out if he’s a fourth or fifth generation resident of the district - I guess math isn’t his strong suit either.

Yet another problem with that caucus - time and again in the last three cycles, Republicans have consistently replaced retiring incumbents with people who were dumber than the people they were replacing.  Probably explains why that caucus flatlined intellectually somewhere around 2005.

  3. LaSage sounds like a mainstream conservative and melchert sounds like a religious nut job!

I find Melchert’s website troubling as well. On his facebook page he says he goes to Bob Jones. Why hide it? Also, I think he’s a little unexperienced and has not really worked for his successes. Let take for example that he’s never been out of college, and despite not working, he bought a radio station? How does that work? Silver spoon? Could he relate to his constituency? Would he care a enought to be fiscally conservative when he has not had to worry about working and paying property tax???

If you look at the LaSage press release, it has priorities that matter to residents of the district and Wisconsin. If you look at Melchert’s it seems pretty cookie cutter and generic. I think LaSage is probably a better choice and appears not to be a RINO.
