ugh. Another milestone of getting older….. seeing a heavy metal hero pass away. I didn’t realize he was that old until Eddie Trunk mentioned it on his show last year.
I had a chance to meet him once while traveling. Class act all the way.
I’m guessing most readers of the blog never heard of the guy or consider him some stereotypical drugged out rock singer after watching that video clip.
He really was perhaps the most talented rock singer of all-time. Extremely bright, personable and knew how to entertain his fan-base. The guy was a fascinating interview to listen to and great to hear sing.
To the King of Heavy Metal vocalists—- RIP
Jed….I prefer these two, but you can’t go wrong with most choices
As the one commentator said, “No sir, it is you who Rocks, thanks for giving us Metal”. Mid-80’s stuff with Vivian Campbell on guitar.

And at age 60 still going strong as the man on the silver mountain.

A legend is gone. RJD was superb. Even into his 60’s he still had his fastball.
Godspeed.
Ronny James Dio lived the life of a tiger, you could feel his heart, but you knew he was mean.
Thanks for the classics RJD.
Yes, I liked the Rainbow era stuff the best. Sound track to my time in California and a nice antidote to the typical California music at the time.
RIP.
