Putting a Man on Mars

Remember how the Democrats ridiculed President Bush when he set a goal of putting a man on Mars?

The Orlando Sentinel reported on Sunday that the Illinois senator, Barack Obama, has revealed a great deal about his support of NASA.

The Democratic presidential candidate has called for the U.S. to lead the way in terms of space exploration, and wants to put astronauts on the moon yet again.

On top of that, he also wants to pursue the eventual goal of putting astronauts on Mars.

I guess Bush was just ahead of the curve.

Sure do! It was most notable for a complete lack of details and deadlines. As Gore put it at the time, ‘‘By proposing a return to the Moon and a manned base on Mars, with no money, no timetable, and no plan, President Bush offers the country not a challenge to inspire us, but a daydream to briefly entertain us, a daydream about as splashy as a George Lucas movie, with about as much connection to reality,’’ said Senator Al Gore, Democrat of Tennessee, who is chairman of the Committee on Space, Science and Technology.

  4. I believe Mars is where Obama will allow the Wind Turbines to be erected. That will eliminate our need for oil even though running the transmission wires back to Earth will be tricky.
