Pregnant at 17

Elliot points out...

A 17-year-old being pregnant isn’t the best situation.

But, my mother had me when she was 17.

Barack Obama’s mother got pregnant with him when she was 17.

Obama has already said that he won’t use Palin’s daughter as a means of attacking the Republican ticket.  That was the correct and classy move.  Let’s hope his supporters show the same restraint. 

Of course, Rachel Lucas is more cynical (realistic?). 

And who can doubt that the announcement that 17-year-old Palin daughter Bristol is preggers will drive certain leftists completely off the deep end in an orgy of impotent joy that now they can drag a minor into the election combat zone? This is the best news they’ve heard in weeks so you can’t blame them for their ecstasy. The only thing that might make them happier is if she had an abortion.

Hope! Change!

  1. The Right-wing is so great at dishing it out. Unwed breeders are black welfare teens, after all.

    And of course, being a liberal, I’m in favor of an abortion in this case, according to right-wing nut case Rachal Lucas.

    The truth is, this is not a great way to start out adult life, but at least Palin is not going to exclude her daughter Bristol from the family, unlike others in the same situation.

    This is an unfortunate happening for the Palin family and hopefully they will be able to make the best of a bad situation.

    Indeed. I’ve met a young mother whose conservative Waukesha-County parents threw her out of the house, forcing her to seek prenatal care on the public dime.

    Rachel’s comment is absurd in the extreme, as anyone can imagine her reaction if the Democratic VP nominee’s unwed 17-yo daughter was knocked up. The invective describing the assault on “family values” would be the subject on (thrice divorced) Limbagh’s show for weeks.

  3. We’ll be looking for at least as much restraint as was shown in the case of John Edwards’ child of adultery.  It’s good to have positive examples from which to draw.

    Let’s leave this specific child having children out of the discussion for a moment.  Can we now agree that abstinence alone isn’t working?

    Never. Ask Calvin Freiburger. He once posted a link to a study that said abstinence-only education doesn’t work and that society would need to change for it work. He said it supports his opinion that it works because if society did change, then it would work.

    I don’t know, you figure it out.

    No, at the time the libs were pushing the study as if it proved the failure of abstinence-only education.  I noted how that claim was BS.  My only other point was that what kids are taught in schools isn’t going to be the only social force affecting this issue.
