Wendy and I went out on a date tonight to celebrate her birthday. For dinner, we went to the Poplar Inn.

It was awesome. For an appetizer we had seared scallops with pineapple salsa. It was fantastic. I had a porterhouse that was melt-in-your-mouth glorious. Wendy had Macon Walleye, which is fish with mushrooms, bacon, and pecans. I had a taste. It was fantastic. For dessert we had a chocolate truffle which managed to compress a year’s worth of chocolate into a single bite.
The service was fantastic, but the sides were just so-so. But who goes to a restaurant for the sides?
The meal ran us about $100 with tip and a couple of drinks. It was a fantastic meal and well worth it. I encourage everyone to discover this gem of a restaurant in the heart of West Bend.
There was live music, too, don’t forget.
Owen’s steak was so good, I forgot that I don’t even like steak.
In addition to the fancy dinners we had, they also had a “fish fry” for 9.95. The people at the table next to us seem to have had that, and there was a lot of food on their plates.
Happy Birthday Wendy!!! And thanks - we’re always looking for a good place to dine…
Wendy, I’m so happy you had a wonderful evening out on your birthday, you deserve it. Happy Birthday! Love
I agree, we went there once with a coupon. I’m from Wisconsin, I expect a coupon for everything. But it was so good, we’ve actually eaten there without a coupon ![]()
“I’ve eaten there withour a coupon”.In Wisconsin, that is indeed a high compliment. Oh, and Happy Birthday, Wendy and many more
I like the Poplar Inn, it’s very good. But I prefer Riverside Brewery. Great food and the best beer EVER. If you haven’t been there, give it a try.
We’ve been to Riverside once. It was very good, but I thought a bit over-priced for the fare.
