Polar Ice Cap Ice Free Within Five Years?

Algore has been caught playing fast and loose with the facts again.

Mr Gore, speaking at the Copenhagen climate change summit, stated the latest research showed that the Arctic could be completely ice-free in five years.

In his speech, Mr Gore told the conference: “These figures are fresh. Some of the models suggest to Dr [Wieslav] Maslowski that there is a 75 per cent chance that the entire north polar ice cap, during the summer months, could be completely ice-free within five to seven years.”

However, the climatologist whose work Mr Gore was relying upon dropped the former Vice-President in the water with an icy blast.

“It’s unclear to me how this figure was arrived at,” Dr Maslowski said. “I would never try to estimate likelihood at anything as exact as this.”

Mr Gore’s office later admitted that the 75 per cent figure was one used by Dr Maslowksi as a “ballpark figure” several years ago in a conversation with Mr Gore.

  1. The notion that ANYONE can still take this guy, or his religion seriously is utterly laughable. He is running around giving speeches about the end of the world, and then selling his own carbon offsets to the morons who feel guilty and want to repent.

    For all those who say that the opposition to global warming is backed by for profit companies, I am wondering how it is possible to reconcile that position with the fact that Al Gore and others are making millions off of this “looming apocalypse”.

  2. Al Gore and others are making millions off of this “looming apocalypse”.

    Millions, my man, I think you meant Billions!  Al Gore is supposed to become the first Carbon Billionaire, if everything goes according to plan.

    If the enviros have their way, they will be on track to be the “Big Business” of the 21st century.  Who would have thought the Democrats would be the “robber barons” in today’s world.

    This is one hell of a circle jerk forming before our eyes - Big Environment, Big Government, & Big Medicine (staffed by SEIU of course, so they can come up another $60Million for Democrat presidential candidates),  Anyone not working in the “Big Three” will be part of a very small minority.

  3. ‘07 was the low point.  ‘08 and ‘09 were the second and third lowest point.

    While I cannot claim that the arctic ice is going to come back, the it is obvious what the 3 year trend is.  I would think you would at least have to show that the trend is in the opposite direction to make his claim of 5 years.

    The New Apostles Creed: “I believe in the Holy Goric Church”

    I believe in Gore, the Bullshitter Almighty,
    the Maker of Global and Warming,
    and in Climate Change, his latest line of bullshit, our graven image:

    Which was conceived by the CRU,
    born of the Michael Mann,
    suffered under Hadley Hacker,
    was crucified, dead, and buried under CRU emails;

    It descended into global freezing hell.

    The third week Climate Change arose again from the dead in Copenhagen;

    The fraud, the hoax and the bullshit ascended into the heaven of infinite carbon credits,
    and sitteth on the right hand of Gore the Bullshitter Almighty;
    from thence Climate Change shall come to rule and rape and pillage the third and the first world nations.

    I believe in the Climate Change;
    the holy Goric church;
    the communion of consensus science;
    the indulgences of carbon credits;
    the resurrection of the Global Warming;
    and the taxes everlasting.

    Amen.

  5. Since the sum of the Goracles work centered on the “hockey stick” graph created by Michael Mann, I think the Goracle can now officially be called a charlatan.  Mann is one of the climategate bunko artists, and any work done by him should be viewed with wide skepticism, at the very least.

    I am surprised how many people have bought so heavily into warming (even when they can’t see it actually happening) that no amount of contrary data can get them to even consider that the issue needs more research. They just believe what they are told and actually alter their lives, and the lives of others in accordance with that belief. It really IS getting to be almost religious in nature. I just wish that I could understand why.

  6. It really IS getting to be almost religious in nature. I just wish that I could understand why.

    There is a lot of money in religion. These people are motivated by greed, and prestige. The scientists want lucrative government research grants. Since almost all of the worlds governments have bought into global warming hook line and sinker, there is no incentive to do unbiased research. The scientists begin with the assumption that global warming is happening, and that people caused it, and work outwards from there. Al Gore and his ilk are using the “science” to make movies and write books, which are intended to do nothing but make the general populace feel like sinners, when a sinner feels guilt he repents and tithes. It just so happens that tithing in the church of the Goracle comes in the form of the carbon offset, which puts cubic dollars into Al Gores bank account and does little to actually affect the levels of CO2 in our atmosphere. At least if these people were smart enough to do the research themselves they would realize that planting a few trees would do far more for far less than giving anything to that phony.

  7. Actually, Gore quotes it correctly, the “scientist” made it up.

  8. So if the Arctic is ice free in 5 to 7 years is that enough evidence for you to try to reduce carbon emissions now that it seems the good Dr. Maslowksi does predict a 75% chance that it will happen?

  10. Vic, did you catch that full statement?  According to the Gore press, Dr. M made that statement several years ago.  Several usually means 4-7 years…

  11. Oddly, the amount of summer sea ice has been increasing in both the arctic and antarctic for the last few years. Looks like he was dead wrong. I guess mother nature did not know that she was supposed to go by the computer models.

    In other news, seems as if the Arctic was actually warmer in the late 50s than it is now: http://data.giss.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/gistemp/gistemp_station.py?id=431042500000&data_set=1&num_neighbors=1

    Wait, this just in… a new study shows that temperatures in the arctic may have been warmer than now over 1000 years ago. The studies conclusion states: On decadal-to-century timescales, periods around ad 750, 1000, 1400, and 1750 were all equally warm, or warmer. The warmest summers in this new reconstruction occur in a 200-year period centred on ad 1000. .

    Now, back to you Vic…. what were you saying again?
