Polar Bears Would Fall Off New Oil Platforms and Die

Sometimes the bias isn’t so subtle.  This is from the BBC’s website.

image

It’s a story about offshore oil drilling and U.S. energy policy.  Why put a picture of a polar bear next to it?  Of course it’s because in the mind of whoever chose the picture, more drilling equals more global warming equals dead polar bears.  Good thing the liberals commenting on this blog insist that more drilling won’t do anything, so I guess the polar bears would be OK.

UPDATE: The BBC updated the page with a more appropriate picture.

  1. So they switched from the polar bear to the movie set of Diamonds for Forever.  Those crazy Brits.

Do you think the BBC was subtly suggesting with the polar bear image that instead of drilling offshore we should just invade Canada for their oil?

  2. Keeping America competitive requires affordable energy.  The best way to break this addiction is through technology.  We must also change how we power our automobiles. We will increase our research in better batteries for hybrid and electric cars, and in pollution-free cars that run on hydrogen. We’ll also fund additional research in cutting-edge methods of producing ethanol, not just from corn, but from wood chips and stalks, or switch grass.

Suppose we do nothing, & we don’t eliminate this $400 billion dependence we have on foreign oil. Some of that money goes to terrorist organizations & also contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. Then what kind of a world have we given our children? We Westerners care very much about our environment and we want to act in addressing the issue of climate change, whether it be through cap-and-trade, through tax incentives for R&D;for green technologies and many other measures that need to be taken.

  3. We Westerners care very much about our environment and we want to act in addressing the issue of climate change...and some of “we Westerners” don’t buy into the greenhouse effect or the climate change scam and just would like to be energy self-sufficient. The actual types of energy and technologies will follow through market forces - if they are allowed to work - the government has never helped the process.

Perhaps the billions of dollars currently being spent in our universities to continue to foster the continuing “climate change” theories could be redirected into alternative energy research. I could save them all lots of time and money - I hereby assure the world that climate change is occurring, has occurred, and always will occur, and there’s nothing we humans can do to affect it (look up info on solar activity).
