I always find it amusing when some church in the Milwaukee area called “Pipeline to Jesus” closes for weather. There is just something odd about “Pipeline to Jesus—Closed” scrolling along the bottom of the TV screen.
That said, it’s time for us to find a new “pipeline to Jesus.” Our own church cancelled services again this evening. Good thing Jesus wasn’t as wimpy as the Lutheran churches in the area. He went through a bit more than a snowstorm on His way to the cross. You’d think we could trudge through a little snow to throw a little praise His way for that.
UPDATE: From the website of David’s Star Lutheran Church in Jackson: “Ash Wednesday Services w/Holy Communion (will be held no matter what the weather conditions)” Good for them!
In the good Catholic tradition, we were reminded by the Communications Director for the Archdiocese that Ash Wednesday is not a holy day of obligation and that the parishes will probably distribute ashes throughout the rest of the week and this weekend at masses.
We’re adaptable!
I saw that last night but didn’t put the whole thing together. It’s very funny, Wendy.
That’s a funny statement. The line to Jesus is always open, you can reach Him anytime, in any weather through prayers.
Jesus is always open to everyone who loves and trusts Him. He’s always there and never leaves us any moment we need Him. I think there are several reasons why churches closing its door. So, as a human being it’s our obligation to serve Him, no matter what happens even we don’t go on churches because God is in “everywhere”.
God may be everywhere but the Divine Service is special, we literally are worshiping with all the company of heaven and Christ himself is present as he told us (“where ever two or three gather in my name there shall I be”).
btw - Our Savior Evenagelical Lutheran Church (LCMS), Whitefish Bay was open. We had three services and a potluck supper.
If enough people are looking for a new “Pipeline to Jesus”, can a Christian Rock album by The Chantays be far behind?
Will the Pipeline to Jesus be closed permanent?
I hope not!
