You know your parents are ready for you to leave the nest when they tell you it’s time to take your baby book to your own house. So I did.
When I was a baby, my aunt cut up a newspaper and put interesting things in a photo album. That fills up the first nine pages. Apparently, my parents were to fill the other nine pages with pictures from my childhood. However, as the third and last child, those pages remain empty.
At any rate, one of the things my aunt put in my book was the “New York Stock Quotations” section of paper. On my birthday, which was NOT that long ago, thankyouverymuch, the Dow was at 846.37. I like to think that my birth brought such optimism to America that increased the number to over 14,000 and brought unbelievable prosperity to the country. However, then I would have to wonder what incident I caused to make it tank to what it is now.
For the record, a three-pound package of ground beef at Red Owl was 79 cents a pound. That was apparently the lean stuff, because the “Juicy Blend II” was only 69 cents per pound for a three pound package.
“Today’s Chuckle” on my birthdate was “New remedy for baldheaded men: ‘Rub green persimmon juice on your head. It own’t grow hair, but it will draw your sideburns up to where they will meet.’”
GM stock was at 52 5/8. It’s at 2.88 right now.
Here is a good tool for finding out what those dollars are in todays money.

I left a space that should not be in calculator too.
