People Eat What They Like to Eat

This is surprising to nobody.

No matter that First Lady Michelle Obama has been on a crusade for a year and a half to slim down the country. Never mind that some restaurants have started listing calories on their menus. Forget even that we keep saying we want to eat healthy. When Americans eat out, we order burgers and fries anyway.

  1. Burgers and fries are as American as apple pie and baseball. Godspeed to Mrs. Obama for trying, but she’s not going to succeed in a noble pursuit by herself. Sure, you can say Americans eat what Americans want to eat. But WHY do they want to eat that way? Advertising. You wouldn’t advertise something that is selling slowly, or picking up favor gradually. You wouldn’t be making money back on your investment in the ads. So yeah, it doesn’t make much profit-sense to advertise the healthy things in our society.

Still she should be doing all she can to raise awareness and over time things could change.

Yes, and how she leads by example is so noble.

  3. One of the biggest problems the Obama’s (and most liberials) have is the do as I say not as I do.
They always want to make rules for everyone else to follow but exempt themselves because they are special.

  4. REAPER & noname, you really think that Michelle Obama doesn’t walk the walk when it comes to healthy food? I don’t think she has EVER said that you should ONLY eat healthy foods? There are plenty of things to have qualms about the Obama administration… this is NOT one of them.

Does she eat a fatty burger on occasion? Probably. But I will tell you what, I bet she is in better shape than 95% of the people that post on this board (me included). But no where does she say you CAN’T indulge once in a while.

Her “Let’s Move” campaign says that we should eat healthier and be more active. Not exactly rocket science, but something that SHOULD be drilled into everyone from age 0-99. And statistics show that it isn’t happening, because Americans are getting fatter and lazier and are ranked 36th in life expectancy throughout the world.

If you rip on Michelle Obama for this program, you are clearly a douche-bag. Take it or leave it, but this program is no different than “Just Say No” that Nancy Reagan championed for years or Laura Bush’s education & women’s health initiatives.  It will work for some, and fail for others.

Try to see past your partisan blinders and see that she is doing something USEFUL with her position just like many first ladies before her.

  5. JonnyV,

She sure likes to have her photo taken while she’s stuffing her face full of greasy cheeseburgers and fries.  Plus she shouldn’t be telling anyone else to lose weight until she hits weight watchers herself.

  6. GMan. I don’t know ANY woman that likes her picture taken while eating.

And if you think that Michelle is overweight you are either insane, or have a totally unrealistic vision of women. Especially women that are 6’ and have had 2 kids.

Sorry, wrong on that one buddy.  Her ass is huge.  *She* needs to stop stuffing her face with food she’s telling us not to eat, or she needs to shut her mouth.  Either one will help her lose weight.

  8. Jesus said that you cannot poor new wine into old bottles because the bottles might break…but the real battle is over what taste good verses what’s good for you…and some restaurants are offering more for people to choose from…
