Parking Wars

I admit it.  I love Brett Favre, but these hour-long specials on TV are ridiculous.  What are they going to do when the guy dies (hopefully not for a very long time)?  It’s going to rival the death of freaking Elvis, except worse because now there are blogs.  And youtube.

So I took a nice long bubble bath during the TMJ “Farewell to Favre” special or whatever it was called.  Is there any doubt now why the man didn’t make the announcement in Wisconsin?  I hope he’s sitting around tonight with a few good friends watching some movie that makes them all laugh.

At any rate, since any post today must mention Brett Favre, I hope he will consider working for this show.  Would he make a great ticketing agent or what?  Hi-larious.  Just the thought makes it totally worth him retiring today.  (Well, maybe not entirely).

And for the record, I’m going to keep writing about Parking Wars until you all watch it and make it your favorite show.

  1. I view America’s sports madness with great disdain.  It’s not that I don’t understand the thrill of competition.  I’ve been there!  I know!  It’s that I don’t understand the vicarious nature of spectator sports.  At least not to the level that it involves the entire community on such a pervasive basis.  I can’t have lunch with my colleagues without someone bringing up the latest sports competition.  As if we didn’t have things more relevant to our own lives and careers to discuss.

I’ve worked for Marquette for a decade, and was a grad student before that.  Even so, I was only dimly aware that we even had a basketball team until one day our web server got really slow due to an extremely high number of visitors.  My colleagues had to patiently explain to me that there was this thing called the Final Four, and that we were in it.

As far as Brett Favre is concerned, I wouldn’t know him if I bumped into him in the street.  And if a wealthy, famous and good-looking guy retires at the age of 38, I don’t find it in me to feel sad about it.

PS.  Thumbs up for bubble baths.  Everyone should indulge, at least weekly.  The world would be a better place.

  2. If a terrorist blew up a bomb today in Milwaukee, Brett Favre would still have the bigger headline.
BTW, scott, my dad worked for Al McGuire, way back before computers.  They had the same problems when they won the championship, but with other types of devices- manual typewriters and telephones with a rotary dial.

  5. Wendy, I loved the show before your first post about it. Gotta love the ingenuity—If there’s a way to make a buck off parked cars, Philly has thought of it! I also love people losing it just because they didn’t read a street sign. Classic!

  7. Milwaukee needs a parking authority.  Can you imagine the people freaking when their car on the east side gets towed…
