Huh.
The Green Bay Packers released defensive end Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila and activated defensive tackle Justin Harrell in a series of moves today.
“We want to thank Kabeer for his contributions to the Green Bay Packers,” general manager Ted Thompson said in a news release. “During his time here, he has been a big part of our organization and our community. We wish Kabeer and his family well.”
In nine seasons with the Packers, Gbaja-Biamila appeared in 124 career games, including 74 starts. He is the franchise’s all-time sacks leader with 74½, having passed Reggie White (68½) in 2007.
Good move?
Kinda sad seeing KGB go. He’s really a class guy, and his statement is a reflection of that.
Frankly, his play has deteriorated since last year. It was time for him to go.
Hopefully, Harrell will live up to expectations.
Class guy is right. Good role model for kids too.
One thing you have to say about sports, performance and accountability rule.
I sincerely wish him well.
Totally bummed about KGB. As other have said he was a total class guy as well as a pro-life born-again Christian.
Best of luck to him in the future.
I’m surprised at the timing, is all. I really enjoyed his play when he was at the top of his game. He could be a decisive weapon.
I don’t think Harrell will ever be.
As an undersized end his playing career will be shorter than most, and he definitely on the downside of his career. Why didn’t they trade him at the beginning of the year?
Harrell was a stupid draft choice from day one and TT would be better off putting him in the discard pile and bringing someone in who has a real chance of playing. The guy is perpetually injured.
ITA with the others ... Harrill will not perform up to expectations.
It is more about M. Montgomery and J. Thompson being a little better at DE than KGB this year.
J.Harrell coming off the PUP was just part of the reasoning for KGB’s release.
In pro-football sometime good people are asked to leave.
One good thing for KGB is that his contract will be paid for the rest of the year.
He is a class act. Unfortunately, he had one move - the quick outside arc to the QB. The knee injury hurt both quickness and leverage and he was constantly bumped wide and was no longer a factor. I’m sure he will be successful in whatever the future brings.
Some friends of ours were/are tight with KGB and his wife, with KGB’s wife being from the Philippines.
