Owen With His Little Walleye

My boss was nice enough to take me out for a little fishing this weekend.  I caught a couple of bass, a couple of perch, one bluegill, and this little walleye.  We were looking for walleye, but this was the only one we caught all day.

  2. Nah.  Tossed ‘em all back.

  3. Oops.  Misread that.  I thought you asked if we put it into our fish tank - not if we pulled it OUT of our fish tank.  Anyway… we tossed ‘em all back.

  4. That’s not a walleye; that’s bait!

Now, what lake did you fish, so I know not to fish it?

  5. It’s Gull Lake in Minnesota.  I’m not a fisherman, so my expectations were low anyway.

  6. Just out of deference to your fellow Aggies you might want to photoshop out that shirt or that fish.

It looks as if you had the perfect weekend for fishing.  That has to count for something.

  7. Whenever I happen to make it home during the summer I usually end up walleye fishing with the family. (It’s their summer past-time)  And, sorry Owen, but that is the smallest walleye I have ever seen.  What did you use as bait… some sort of freshwater plankton?

  8. Nice big motor though.

  9. Must’ve been southern Minnesota.

Seriously, I’m surprised you didn’t get more walleyes.  If you see bait-sized walleyes, there’s usually larger ones around.

  10. One of the guys who is a fisherman (unlike me) said that it was a bad time of year with bad weather conditions and the wrong time of day.  Hell, I don’t know.  I was just enjoying a very nice morning sitting in a boat on a lake grin

  11. Every time I fished for walleye I ended up catching something else.

Now I never declare what I’m fishing for, and that way I’m never disapointed!

  12. I know it won’t make you feel better Owen, but I just got back from walleye fishing and we caught(literally) hundreds of walleye.  The eatin’ was good.  Next time try a jighead with a Gulp artificial bait.  Chartreuse was the color of the week.

  13. Next time you go fishing for walleye, I highly recommend Big Green Lake in our lovely state (despite the high taxes, Wisconsin still has some of the best fishing around).  Green Lake isn’t as far as Minnesota, and it’s a great little town.  Still, a bad day’s fishing beats a good day’s work anytime.

  14. I should note that I was at the lake for another reason and went fishing on one morning.  I didn’t go to the lake to fish.  Still, it made for a fun morning.
