Opposition in Zimbabwe Claim Victory

Let’s hope this is true.

Defying a government order, Zimbabwe’s main opposition party released its election results Sunday, claiming an early victory for their presidential candidate.

1 of 3 President Robert Mugabe is facing one of the most serious challenges to his three-decade rule of Zimbabwe from two candidates, including his former finance minister, Simba Makoni.

The other main rival is Morgan Tsvangirai of the main opposition party Movement for Democratic Change, who has tried in the past to unseat the 84-year-old incumbent.

MDC released its count of the votes Sunday, claiming an early victory for Tsvangirai.

Sunday’s announcement sets up a showdown with Zimbabwe’s government, which will release the results of its count Monday.
