Open Carry Picnic Draws Over 200

Cool.

Open Carry Picnic Facts

•213 people signed in.

•99 people carried holstered firearms.

•100 burgers, 100 brats and 50 hot dogs were served.

•$830.85 was raised by participants for Wisconsin Badger Camp.

These are great events.  Good for them.

OTOH, I should point out that the reporter clearly doesn’t know jack about handguns.

Both wore reproductions of vintage instruments in their holsters.

Vintage instruments?  What, were they hauling around Harpsichords and old violins?

Pat Rose had a copy of a “1911” style military handgun

Huh?  A 1911 is a style of handgun.  The name does come from the Colt M1911, which was designed for the military, but there are literally dozens and dozens of 1911s that are purely for civilian use.  It would be a stretch to call a 1911 a “military handgun” unless it is in reference to the original Colt.  So is the reporter saying that Rose had a replica of a M1911 or just saying that it was a 1911 from some other manufacturer or era?  Or was it a photocopy?  Would it have been so hard for the reporter to just report the manufacturer and model (and possibly caliber) instead of trying to characterize it?  I guarantee that everybody there could have told the reporter exactly what they were carrying, then he could have just… you know… reported it.

In any case, it’s good to see the healthy turnout at open carry events.

  1. I’m disappointed that 213 people got together and only ate 250 burgers, brats and dogs combined.  Next thing you’re going to tell me is that they only had 10 cases of beer.

Reminds me of my aunt and uncle from Canada who split cans of coke.

  2. No drinking allowed at an open carry picnic.  It’s not safe wink

  3. Ha ha.  Love the picture.  That would have been a great event to go to. On one of the other right-winger blogs (I forget which) the blogger said they wanted pictures from the event and I told him to just do a google image search of “fat bald white man with mustache.”  I was kidding, but check out hte picture from the artilce.  Bingo.

  4. Is there a lot of “diversity” at these gun parties? Or is there a need to do some more outreach in the inner city?

  5. Just liberty-loving folks.  Race/gender/sexual orientation/etc. are irrelevant.

Nice to see our more liberal commenters obsessing about things that have absolutely nothing to do with people exercising their rights to openly carry a weapon.

  6. Something tells me you’d be a bit apprehensive about attending a gun party as the lone white guy. But at least you’d be in a position to defend yourself with deadly force, if necessary. As a good soldier, I’m sure you’d carry your ROE card for reference in case things went south.

  7. No, I’d feel comfortable attending any open carry event.  You should really reevaluate your obsession with race and other genetic factors.  Perhaps if you approached people as individuals, you wouldn’t be so worried about being afraid.

  8. Correct me if I’m wrong…but isn’t fear and an obsession with the 2nd amendment a prime motivator for the gun crowd?

  9. Nope.

  10. “obsession with the 2nd amendment”  Hate to tell you this Joe but patriots are obsessive about the entire Bill of Rights, the Constitution and, oh ya, we really get crazy about that Declaration of Independence.

  12. Of course it’s not a blanket rule, but you’d agree that a veriy significant percentage of the people that are really into guns are fat white men with mustaches, wouldn’t you?  Obviously that’s not a very scientific claim, but it sure appears to be true.

I’d also bet that a lot of these guys aren’t as enthusiastic about the 1st amendment as they are about the second.  (I’m super enthusiatic about both btw).

  15. Gee, they were white, somewhat overweight and some of them had facial hair!  I’d never expect to see that in the northern half of Wisconsin.

  16. Ha.  Good point.  There’s a reason this didn’t take place in Brookfield or Shorewood.  Way to embrace stereotypes Northern Wisconsin!  They might as well have made it an open carry car race.

Keep posting pics and videos if you got ‘em.
