Well, that does seem odd.
The Legislative Audit Bureau reports Friday that a portion of recipients on the Wisconsin FoodShare program spent almost $33 million outside the state last year.
Program participants are legally allowed to purchase food anywhere in the country. But the report shows some FoodShare cards were used for purchases in Wisconsin on the same day the card’s account number was manually entered for purchases in another state.
Oddest is the great disparity in these statistics as reported by your source and by the JS. One of them has problems with reading comprehension of the news release (or is innumerate).
As I read it, Jason Stein’s JSOnline article says that outstate spending was “$32.9 million” AND “$324,200.” I’m guessing that $324,200 is the correct number.
So what would be the “non fraud” reason for this?
People got their food stamps then went on a road trip and bought food out of state ? If they are so hard up they need my tax money for food stamps how can they afford to travel?
