Obama’s Health Care Plan to Run Huge Deficits

Is there anyone who actually thinks this is a good idea?

President Barack Obama on Tuesday proposed budget rules that would allow Congress to borrow tens of billions of dollars and put the nation deeper in debt to jump-start the administration’s emerging health care overhaul.

The “pay-as-you-go” budget formula plan is significantly weaker than a proposal Obama issued with little fanfare last month.

It would carve out about $2.5 trillion worth of exemptions for Obama’s priorities over the next decade. His health care reform plan also would get a green light to run big deficits in its early years. But over a decade, Congress would have to come up with money to cover those early year deficits.

  1. If you are asking about Obama’s health care reform plan (as much as we know thus far) I for one do not.  He needs to go whole hog with single payer that purchases from the private insurance market, or go home.  He is piecemealing at this point, almost as if to make us so dependent on government care that a universal plan will be inevitable because the system will collapse.  There is no reason we can’t mirror health care systems that leave the plans and provider decisions in the public sector like so many other countries have successfully done.

  3. This tells me this guy does not have a grasp of math.  For the prior two weeks, whenever anyone criticized his trillion dollar deficits, he’d always say that his health care reform is what would solve the deficit problem.  Now this week he tells us his proposal will cost more money (or at least upfront money)

  4. Basically it sounds like to me here that Obama’s all for limiting spending….unless it’s for one of his programs.

  5. I’m for it.  The faster the US economically destabalizes, the sooner we can turn into the post-apocalyptic wasteland of my dreams.

Duh Bill, don’t you know?  Our system is too expensive.  How can it not be clear that we will have to spend trillions (always at least double Government plans when vague estimates are the subject) to make healthcare more affordable?
