But there is evidence of growing public concern over his fiscal policies. As he traveled Thursday in Green Bay, Wis., Obama was greeted by demonstrators holding signs that said, “No socialism” and “Taxed Enough Yet?”
Yeah, well, anybody can quote anything. How about:
“... the previous GOP administration’s tax cuts, borrowing to finance wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and expansion of entitlement benefits remain the chief drivers behind the rising debt”?
Get used to the new vernacular - “old recession” (that which was blamed on Bush) & the “new recession” - (that which is being driven by the massive Obama deficits).

As it becomes clearer that the deficit caused by spending has landed us in a new economic crisis, entirely of Obama’s own making, his popularity and job performance are likely to drop as well.
So the answer to solve the problem is to go even deeper into debt? Yeah, makes total sense.

Actually only 7% of the current deficit came from Obama, 50% from Bush and 37&% from the business cycle—http://tinyurl.com/mgjadz
I agree with you HUTCH, but I think the issue is that a Republican complaining about debt is like a Yankees’ fan complaining about player salaries.
I’m sorry, but on what planet should I take such complaints seriously?
On a planet where you, like me, will be paying the bill. I hope you explain your kids’ tax burden to them because you chose to try to appear pithy and clever instead of actually doing anything.
Pathetic.
Sorry Schmitzy, this one’s all on BO and the Dems, as will be the massive deficits for the next several years. As for your study, I’m sorry, it advocates “reforming the health care system” and a greater howler, “reducing the threat of catastrophic climate change.” (Will love to see how that improves the competitiveness of industry in the U.S. - that giant sucking sound will be jobs exiting).
How will BO manage to balance the budget (according to your truthiness)? “Other proposed tax cuts and increases in spending would be more than paid for (relative to the realistic baseline) by curtailing low-priority programs, closing tax loopholes, and rolling back tax breaks for taxpayers with incomes over $250,000.” You keep your “official” version of the truth.
Now, remind us how many jobs this reckless waste of money will create?
Thank you Hutch. I read Schmitz’s article and it’s quite the strawman; proof you can find an article to confirm anything. Blaming ‘the business cycle’... how funny…
Schmitz, I have a headache this morning. I’m sure it’s Bush’s fault and not the two Sprecher Black Bavarians from last night.
Ha! Owen, I’ve spent half my time on this blog complaining about government spending more than it takes in, you just don’t like the fact that I’ve focused on the practice when it’s been done by your party.
Are you forgetting our row over the state budget two years ago? Weren’t you the one who supported a version of the budget that increased the structural deficit and then complained a month or so later about that very problem?
You seem to think that mindlessly railing against government spending is a good way to oppose debt. It really isn’t because it isn’t going to happen, especially under either party. So you and a lot of other conservatives end up in the position of supporting revenue-draining tax cuts, spending cuts that will never happen, and the result is more debt. Which as one of the leaders of your party recent said, to paraphrase, “don’t matter enough to prevent us from getting elected”.
I was unfortunate enough to hear that idiot Hannity complaining about fiscal irresponsibility for the 10 seconds it took me to change the station upon starting my car. Where was that outrage from ‘00 to ‘06? It wasn’t there. Where was the outrage from members of your party at that time? Where was it from Fox News, or you blogs, or other GOP operatives? Friends of mine who worked in the Bush white house scoffed when I’d complain about the debt. Bah, they said, it’s still a small chunk of GDP. No worries.
You seem to think this is about you personally but it really isn’t. You seem to think this means that, typical of a partisan hack, I think it’s ok for Obama to do it because you guys did it. It isn’t. It’s about the fact that your party has no credibility on this issue. None. So little that your party looks and sounds foolish everytime it opens its mouth on the issue. It’s like if Darth Vader went around telling us in episode 4 that, never mind his behavior, the Emperor is REALLY evil. It would be comical in the extreme.
That’s why personally I’ve abandoned both parties. There’s no point in supporting either one because in addition to the fact they’re nothing more than high school cliques, their elected members will never make prudent decisions because people like you will support them anyway.
ATV,
GW is not president anymore.
Sincerely,
As you wrote that post you probably heard a sound overhead. It wasn’t an airplane, it was my point.
I’m well aware that GW isn’t President anymore. I’m not blaming GW for Obama’s fiscal imprudence. Obama would be acting in a fiscally imprudent manner whether GW was President before him or not, whether GW was fiscally prudent or not.
What I’m saying is that when it comes to complaining about the consequences of policy choices, pots calling kettles black eliminates any credibility the pots think they have.
Do you understand that?
ATV,

GW isn’t president anymore and won’t be any time soon. His fiscal imprudence doesn’t make Obama’s recklessness any less detrimental. The Republicans are a 8” cast iron pan and the Democrats are a 5 gallon chili pot….

Good point there.
If you want to “get hip” to the new political excuse (as per Rolling Stone magazine (June 11, 2009), the “Hot under Bush” excuse was “Clinton Did It Too”. Now, the “Hot under Obama” excuse is “Bush Started It”.
