Obama Supporters Dine and Ditch

Nice folks, there.

WAUPUN — Barack Obama’s Wisconsin Campaign for Change left no change in Waupun last week.

The presidential candidate’s campaign staff arrived at the Chit Chat Caf at 324 E. Main St., last Tuesday to hold a round table discussion about Obama and his positions.

More than 40 people crowded the family restaurant.

But when it came time to leave, the campaign staff got up and left, refusing to pay the tab for coffee.

“When they came the place was full and they started talking,” said the waitress Amanda, who didn’t want to use her last name. “Then some people said they couldn’t hear, and so they stood up and started giving a speech, talking loud enough for everyone to hear.

“We didn’t even know they were having a meeting here.”

Amanda said it started last week when two men came in to eat. “After they ate they asked if we could reserve a table for 10 people for next week. We said sure. We didn’t know it was for a meeting.

“We didn’t know what was going on Tuesday. I didn’t know anything about this. They never told us, but they had press releases, and were on the radio, and called people to come.”

As the campaign staff started walking out, a startled Amanda stopped them at the door and asked who was going to pay for the coffee.

“One man said he only had $10, and another said they had to hurry on to the next meeting in Watertown,” Amanda said.

About 20 cups of coffee weren’t paid for but that small amount didn’t concern Chit Chat owner Debbie Vanden Boom.

“It’s the principle of the matter. Had they said they were having a meeting and many people would be coming and could the coffee be complimentary, it wouldn’t have been a problem,” she said.

“On top of that, Amanda never even got a tip.”

How much does 20 cups of coffee cost?  $20 maybe?  Cheap jerks.

Hat tip Charlie.

  5. Well Dan, they didn’t leave a tip, but the good news is that they stole a roll of Charmin to write their strategic plan, and put the rest in Joe Biden’s mouth.

(not that I don’t love Joe Biden-He is a keeper of a VP)

  6. Actually, Dan, they didn’t have to leave a tip for the waitress - they left a promise that “change is coming”.

  7. I think it is amazing that not one person there thought of paying for the tab for the coffee.  Not one person in attendance thought it would be a good thing to not stiff this business and waitress.  WOW

  8. Those damned Democrats!  Always sticking it to the little guy!

Actually this kind of reminds me of the time Clinton dined and dashed at an Iowa diner.

  9. Word is that the bill has been paid, by a Republican of course!

  10. Of course they didn’t pay.  They assume the government (taxpayers) should pay the bill.

This is clearly their stand against “Big Restaurant”, or “Big Coffee”, or perhaps “Big Waitress”.

  11. I was at a Denny’s once late at night when I saw two kids pull a dine and dash. I also knew that there were four police officers sitting and eating at a table in the back room at that very moment, so I quickly went back there to tell them what I had just seen. All four of these police officers then got right up and rushed outside, and soon afterward, they had both of those kids in handcuffs and back inside the Denny’s to let the waitress know what they were trying to do. They were both eventually hauled away in a patrol car.

It’s too bad that something like this didn’t happen to those Obama campaign people. If I were the owner of this cafe, I would’ve called the cops by now, instead of just giving a quote to some reporter and seeming so unfazed by it.

  12. I hope they make Obama himself wash dishes there for the rest of the campaign.

  13. He doesn’t have enough experience to wash dishes.  And this is not a time for “on the job” training.

  14. These people don’t know how lucky they are. If it had been a gathering of conservatives they would have run the bill up to about a billion dollars or so and then stiffed them. Conservatives are much better at thinking big.

  16. Why is the address for the Cafe off by 2 blocks?  Anything else in this story wrong?

    Left wing media.

  17. Why is the address for the Cafe off by 2 blocks?

Obviously, you are not familiar with the Beaver Dam Daily Citizen.  Known by the locals as the “Daily Misprint”.  Proofing is NOT their strongpoint.

    wink

  18. It is true that after hearing that the Obama staffers stiffed the restaurant for the coffee they ordered and stiffed the waitress for her tip, Republican senate candidate for the 18th Senate District Randy Hopper paid the bill and tipped the waitress. Thank you Randy Hopper you are a true gentleman.

  19. Nice guy, Randy

    You are a great American

Perhaps Obama will blame their lack of paying the tab on the Christian Right or President Bush!  LOLOL

  20. Pants, last night I was listening to a conservative guy tell me how he was going to reach the hand of government so deeply into both of our pockets that he could moonlight as a proctologist. What were you saying about kool-aid?

It is a shame and a loss that conservatives such as yourself have so completely abandoned conservatism. And more so because you seem to be unaware of it.

  22. This is another sign of liberal hypocrisy—they pretend to “look out for the little guy,” then they won’t even tip a waitress until it becomes a news story on talk radio.

Similarly, Barrack O says “We are our brothers’ keeper”—OK, Barry, what about your own brother who lives in a box over in Africa?  You made a good buck on your books, why not send a few $$$ to your brother overseas, if you talk so much about compassion and caring…....

  23. Yeah, this story clearly indicates beyond a doubt the utter falseness of liberals concern for working people.
