I listened to Obama’s press conference in its entirety (much to my regret). I am more convinced that our president is either a complete idiot or an evil Marxist. I prefer to believe the former…
Ugh… off to bed.
I had the honour of meeting a young man who at a formal event in Chicago was wearing a unique uniform that he told me with pride, was the uniform of a Senior student, a member of the Corps of Cadets at Texas A & M University.
Although I am a generation, or 2 older than he, we became fast friends. I introduced him to Canada, he introduced me to Texas and TAMU.
His politics are center right and mine center left and we have come to respect each others views and differences.
He referred me to this Blog. At first I learned some things, I laughed some, I got angry sometimes but for the most part I felt the exercise of coming here worthwhile. Oh, and I got to know more about your Governor than any human should ever know about any man, living or dead, LOL!
Then I noticed a change. America’s election season was starting and there was a lot of heat going on here but not much light.
Then it started turning nasty.
This posting tells the tale. There is a constant theme, Obama is either an idiot or and evil Marxist. Obama is full of shit. Obama is a liar. On and on it goes, I even remember someone back before he was elected saying here that violence should be done to Obama with no challenge by our host.
Sadly I advised my friend that I find that there is nothing here for me to learn, to challenge my positions. Bitterness, anger, invective, emotions bordering on hate, have no place where reasoned discourse should occur.
I am saddened by one other fact.
This Blog has as part of its banner the logo of TAMU. The headings has the insignia of the Corps Of Cadets. I have met many students and staff of TAMU and The Corps.
What is said here does TAMU a great disservice.
So it’s delete from my Bookmarks, bootsandsabers.com.
I wish you well and sincerely hope that you can see past your negative emotions to begin to work in a positive fashion for a better and more perfect USofA.

Well, I hope that you have been able to reintegrate yourself into society. I really was not aware that the Bio-dome was still up and running. I’m sure that you would have been equally appalled at the savage beating that President George W. Bush took. That or you were completely fine with that and simply do not like to see the mighty merciful messiah, the all knowing and infallible Obama criticized.
Oh and for the record, Obama while still a fool…is in fact an evil Marxist.

Posted by (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on July 23, 2009 at 0237 hrsDan, if you’re going to be calling someone “not too bright” you might want to spell “Marxist” correctly.
Just sayin’
Posted by (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on July 23, 2009 at 0521 hrsThere is no defense for Obama other then saying I don’t want to play with you anymore. Denis is just another example.
In England, they have moved from National healthcare to having a security system intended to control its populations every move.
It’s all about control and power and it amazes me that people are willing to submit themselves to it.
Posted by (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on July 23, 2009 at 0613 hrsThere are a lot of weak people out there - they don’t want to have to make decisions for themselves and then have themselves to blame. Therefore - they look for government to provide everything they are too lazy to do or figure out for themselves.
It’s easier to blame someone else than to look in the mirror and admit you screwed that one up.
Posted by (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on July 23, 2009 at 0637 hrsODS on the right is exactly the same as BDS was on the left, as I suspected it would be.
Aside from being an evil marxist and a complete idiot, let’s not take our eye off the real problem, which is that he is a creation of Al Queda and was really born in Kenya, or Indonesia, or Afghanistan, so something. OMG!!Z!!!1!!!!
Posted by (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on July 23, 2009 at 0637 hrsSo, all the communist apologists out there want to explain how this tool isn’t a marxist?
I’ll wait, take your time.
Posted by (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on July 23, 2009 at 0643 hrsJust another thought to throw into the mix here - Obamacare may give birth to a whole new meaning of “lock and load”. For example, if I’m told I have to wait six months, or a year for a life saving treatment I may just grab my gun and give those doctors a dose of “what wait? over my dead body?” An armed nation is a dangerous nation according to those clowns in Washington.
Posted by (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on July 23, 2009 at 0725 hrsThe majority of the comments on this thread only serve to prove the truth of Denis’ statement. He’s exactly right, and it’s why there’s no more reasoned argument here, just invective. All the people who appreciate rational discussion have stopped coming by. Either that, or they’re immediately shouted down with a bunch of ridiculous truthiness, like what’s happening to Denis.
Posted by (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on July 23, 2009 at 0904 hrsI can not watch him speak. My blood pressure rises and I yell at the t.v.
He has no idea what he is doing and everything he does is one gigantic experiment that messes with the lives of Amercians.
Our deficit is HUGE to say the least, umemployment is out of control, taxes are on the increase, fees on on the increase and we are told to sacrifice.
Out with the bum!
Posted by (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on July 23, 2009 at 0940 hrsIts always funny. Guys like APC and Dennis salt the earth and leave, but always seem to find their way back.
“truth hurts” seems to come to mind.
and grumps… you’re going to take someone to task for a typo? are you serious? Good grief. Welcome to 2nd grade. A topic like this and that’s your contribution. Seriously man… Petty is an understatement.
(and no I didn’t run spellcheck on my post so feel free to correct me)
Then I noticed a change. America’s election season was starting and there was a lot of heat going on here but not much light.
Dennis my friend. Every aspect of human behavior is indicative of something. You being a lefty might have found the comments a little too hard hitting and offensive for your left-leaning perspective, but take a step back and realize what’s happening here. A socialist policy is being injected main-line into our countrys circulatory system and YOU’RE DAMN RIGHT that will draw out some fierce response from people.
Instead of looking down your nose and tossing out a “shame-on-you-I’m-Outta-here” gradios exit, you might stop and think about WHY there is such a strong reaction.
You know when it comes to a lot of topics, I don’t think getting heated and offensive is comprehensible. Sports comes to mind. To get heated and “nasty” as you put it over sports would be rediculous.
But considering that our over-bearing government has stuck its hands into every aspect of our lives (which now seems to feel more like a prostrate exam sans lube) Its MORE than understandable why that would draw-out the most ranging of reactions from people. This isn’t a spectator sport, THIS IS OUR LIVES and “our” (collectively) childrens future here.
So take your “disgust” and set it aside and instead be mindful that some will respond with logic and point-to-point debate, But there will be times when people throw their hands up in the air in frustration and make a “sour” comment. Everyone needs to vent when their freedom is being sucked out of them from time to time. This is as good a place as any.
When people have frustrations with their government, “venting” on a blog sure beats the heck out of going “Tim McVeigh” doesn’t it?
As for their being “a lot of heat but not much light” I think thats all a matter of perspective. But feel free to inject “light” as you wish. (or just toss out a few condescending self-righteous statements from the podium and make your grand exit) It takes all kinds.
Posted by (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on July 23, 2009 at 1009 hrsI believe there two major facets (not the only) to Obama’s poor leadership:
- lack of any real leadership experience…
- a complete lack of humility….
I’ll have to expand after tee ball…
Posted by (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on July 23, 2009 at 1639 hrsI think there’s a whole lot of truth to what Denis is saying. And I’m disappointed at the tone of Owen’s post. It’s one of the reasons i took such a long break from this blog. There’s a lot more heat than light. There’s a whole lot of right-wing circle jerking. Out-fucking-rageous things get written, both about liberal commenters such as myself, and about lefty elected officials, that the more honorable righties just let go by with no condemnation. One gets the impression that they’d like to say such things themselves but just don’t have the cojones.
The only thing that made me come back here, indeed the only reason I’ve ever been here at all, is to make sure that the far-right radicalism so often seen on these pages does not go unchallenged.
However, I wonder if I’m not just tilting at windmills. I wonder if making sure a challenge is recorded in these comments does any actual good. I know damned well I’m not convincing any of the rightie commenters themselves.
Blah, blah, blah. Scott is nuts. Scott is whatever. But you know what? Scott didn’t just call the president of the United States a Marxist.
I don’t know why I bother to come here. I guess I really shouldn’t. It does nothing but raise all our blood pressures.

And the funny thing is, instead of looking at your own actions and goals while posting here, you instead lay the blame on the “right-wing-circle-jerking”. It shows me that in your mind, you’re better than every single poster here, and you only come here to prove that.
I don’t know why I bother to come here. I guess I really shouldn’t. It does nothing but raise all our blood pressures.
Stay, go, whatever. Nothing you post here could have any impact my blood pressure at all… sorry to hit you so hard with that, but it’s the truth. I hope you can carry on with your life.
Posted by (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on July 23, 2009 at 1849 hrsObama is a guy who can speak well and looks good in front of the camera. That’s pretty much it.
Eventually these type of people get found out.
Posted by (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on July 23, 2009 at 2014 hrsThe bottom line is that this guy does not reflect the value system of the majority of Americans that have run the country and typified the culture the past 100 years. He comes from a foreign/African/socialist paradigm that has total disdain for any of the prior power/cultural/economic markers in the US.
I’m ok with all of that because Obama is entitled to his perspective. The problem is that there are a whole bunch of middle of the road independent voter type people who voted for the guy and had no clue he was this way.
My only question is whether the guy continues to keep significant power into the fall or if the non liberal democrats in Congress and the opinion polls take him down.
Posted by (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on July 23, 2009 at 2236 hrsWell, Obama called the Cambridge cops stupid…so I suppose with Denis, Scott and all the other I’m going to take my ball and go home types, the Cambridge cops should just pack up and go home. Good thing those cops are better men.
Posted by (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on July 23, 2009 at 2253 hrs...Out-fucking-rageous…

Posted by Calvin Freiburger on July 23, 2009 at 2307 hrsis to make sure that the far-right radicalism so often seen on these pages does not go unchallenged.
Thank-god for you Scott! lol…
Liberals REALLY get their panties in a wad when you hit them hard. “Marxist” stings DOESN’T it. It SHOULD.
And the shoe fits. OH does it fit.
You Dennis and Scott can come on here with self-righteous condescension because they don’t want the great Obama to be exposed for what he really is.
Liberals need to avoid these kinds of labels at all costs. Not because it isn’t true, but because it IS true. And because the american people WHEN THEY REALIZE it, ARE NOT for socialism. They are NOT for “spreading the wealth around” via government. Democrats like Obama NEED to be able to “massage” the meaning of words and ideas in order to make the jagged little pill slide down a little easier.
It IS marxism. I’m sorry that comes off as pejorative to all the leftists that support this kind of anti-freedom government.
Liberals hate harsh words. They would rather backdoor the ideas with nice soundbytes.
We hear this every day from liberals “I don’t call that socialism I call that fairness”
come on… lipstick on a pig… Liberals are unhappy because the honeymoon is over and the people are seeing this for what it is.
The fact that Dennis and Scott and APC are using this kind of tactic demonstrates that Owen is doing a good job.
If this was my blog and I didn’t get at least ONE resident lefty PER DAY to get their undies in a bunch tell me “I’m better than this” and get their liberal brethren to come running to try to pile on and discredit anything said here, I’d consider myself failing.
So keep up the good work Owen. If your blog was irrelevant, they wouldn’t be here. If they thought your posts and comments didn’t have teeth, they wouldn’t waste their time. And if they had a logical rebuttal, they’d go point by point and do so. Instead, they deflect by claiming things are “nasty” here. boo hoo.
Posted by (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on July 24, 2009 at 1020 hrsDon’t know what Scott and the rest come here for, but for some of us it’s for the anthropology and a chance to look in how this tribe is doing.
From the notes, study indicates that the inhabitants here are rather thin skinned, love calling people names, then bristle and cry when used against them, worship some kind of god that is similar to Christianity but glorifies violence, wealth, gun adoration, disrespect for their fellow man and wouldn’t know socialism if it bit them on the behind.
Posted by (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on July 24, 2009 at 2214 hrsDon’t know what Keith and Scott or anyone else comes here for, but for some of us its the opportunity to report on the activities of the “other tribe.”
After several visits to blogs like H-Post and Daily K, my notes indicate the inhabitants there (and their operatives here) are extremely thin skinned who love to mask facts with hyperbole, who when challenged on ideas resort to name calling and fear mongering, don’t recognize the existence of our Savior, preferring to worship at the alter of intrusive government, revel in the murder of millions of unborn, prefer that only criminals own guns, abhor private property rights, are envious of the success of anyone that isn’t them, want from people only what they can get without cost to themselves, and don’t recognize socialism when it is being crammed down their throats.
Sigh. I promised myself I wouldn’t comment on this thread, but since Owen hasn’t posted for a couple of days, here I go.
I too have noticed a marked increase in the level of “snarkiness” in both Owen’s topics as well as the comments made by us visitors; I have to put myself in that category as well. The recent themes have tended to accentuate the negative with little regard for positive stories: the Milwaukee fire fighters rescuing a child from a burning vehicle comes to mind. Other events are ignored entirely, like the shooting at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC. Still other events are quibbled to death like President Obama’s gifts to foreign dignitaries or his expressions of condolence to families.
That being said, I come to this board on my own volition. No one puts a gun to my head, toothpicks under my eyelids, hogties me and then forces me to read this blog for endless hours without sleep or nourishment. Nothing written here can cause my blood pressure to rise or ruin my quality of life. As a grown-ass man, I have the choice to participate on this board or simply NOT log on. And if I choose to leave, I don’t need to launch a parting shot and then wait for cries of “Oh Laker, please don’t leave us! We’re sorry for being so mean!”
As a so called “thin skinned Democrat”, I come here to learn, gain new perspectives and sometimes engage in a healthy exchange of ideas. I have learned a lot from you all and that’s why I keep coming to this blog. It’s OK if we don’t agree on everything. And it would be better if we didn’t reduce ourselves to insults and name calling. Continue to carry on, Oven; I can only imagine how much time and effort you must put in to keep this blog going.
But, perhaps the most accurate barometer of behavior and etiquette on this board has been Wendy. And it does speak volumes when she must preface our comments by stating “…and without being asswipe-ish”. Kind of sums some of us up recently, doesn’t it?
Posted by (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on July 25, 2009 at 0952 hrsas a grown-ass man,
Nice, me too. Nice to see that both spectrum’s of the liberal/conservative ideology can be ass-men! Ass and Legs, are much more important than hoots!

I agree with this. I’m a conservative at heart, but I do often read some of the other viewpoints posted here with interest. Some of them are droll, but some really make me think. I tried to engage scott’s posts in the insurance thread with other than my initial knee-jerk “it’s scott again” fashion, but unfortunately that didn’t warrant any different response from him.
All in all- well said laker.
