Obama Cuff(link)ed the Dalai Lama

Commenter Steve asked for a new post. Here it is.

President Obama met with the sleeveless Dalai Lama and presented him with cuff links. The he snuck him out the back door so his parents wouldn’t find out.

Discuss.

  1. You would think after the first few screw ups the person who is making our President and the rest of us for that matter, look so foolish would have been fired by now.  Of course it could be Joe Biden picking out these gifts.

  2. I wonder if BO gave him a backrub, or held his hand as they walked through the rose garden. Don’t you miss the hands-on diplomacy of GWB?

  3. Sixty years from now, Democrats, when faced with any criticism, will point to something George W Bush did as an excuse for why they’re excused from doing idiotic things.

In an effort to move the discussion into the present, I’m going to say this:  Ok…George Bush was an idiot.  Barack Obama is simply a bigger one.

    There…happy now?

Not true - Bush may have been an idiot, but the evidence is overwhelming: Obama’s a clown.

  6. Compared to the utter deceit this administration has shown the American people, yes, I miss the hands-on diplomacy of GWB.

  9. I’m not able to find a verifiable news source confirming the cufflink story. Anyone have a link (not to a blog or discussion board, but a news story with sources).

  10. Don’t know about linking to the cuff links, but here is a good visual of how respectful Obama wasn’t.

So honestly, in light of the other moronic “gifts” he’s given to heads of state along with this photos…  it wouldn’t surprise me in the least.

I can’t find anything other than blog posts either…

However the pictures of the Lama being dragged out a back door through piles of trash is a pretty good one for the administration….

I do find it interesting that despite the irrefutable fact that Obama-Biden have been just as if not more of a gaff factory than Bush-Cheney, yet I don’t see too much about it on the news… in any of the 57 states.

  13. I looked a little for an independently confirmable source on the cufflinks fiasco. Still haven’t found one. Lots of other talk about it, though.

  14. Thanks Wendy….. smile

Here’s a link and photo relating to the NBC news story about him having to go out the back entrance.

I can’t find anything on the cufflinks either.  I’d hope someone could source that.

  16. So (gasp) Owen is just blindly repeating the same unverifiable bullshit that people who disagree with the President like to slew to get folks all fired up.

Love the level of discourse here. Intelligent, reasonable, honest.

    Bullshit.

  17. Um, Owen had nothing to do with this post. A commenter asked for a place to comment on it, and I provided it. Leave Owen out of it.

If you don’t like it, leave.

  18. Yeah, well, mistakes get made. No need to blow it outa proportion… the rest of the right wing(nut) blogosphere is already doing a pretty good job of that.  Everybody makes mistakes. Big deal.

  19. Further, I’d say that “intelligent, reasonable and honest” generally characterizes the tenor of the host and his wife here, if not always all of the commenters. It might do me well to be able to write them (Owen and Wendy) off as shrill screamers, but to do so would be wrong. They are indeed intelligent, reasonable and honest.

I just hope that occasionally they are wrong about substantive issues.  tongue wink

  20. All Owen notes is that someone asked for a new post, and then Owen posted this unverified piece of propaganda. He doesn’t indicate that the content actually came from the other person. And even if it did, Owen must take responsibility for what he posts on his blog.

Jeez George, this is a blog site, not the NY Times. Stop taking yourself so seriously… It is a story that is out there, it is not Wendy or Owen’s fault that this President has given inappropriate gifts to every foreign dignitary he has so far met. No need to be an asshole about it.

  22. Just GTFO George.  You’re a masochist if you stay and read and post any longer based on what you’ve shared with us in #20 and #16.  It takes a really passive-aggressive asshole to critique blogs.

  23. George seems to have a problem with reading comprehension as well if you look at post # 20…  Because Wendy clearly states that she posted this in # 17.

I’m sure he’s all over policing all of the uncited shit on the lefty blogs too though, right?

  25. Her’s the thing…. true or not, it is believable. This amateur White House has bumbled it’s way from one foreign policy faux pas to another. That’s the real issue here. The man is a nit wit at the head of a staff of nit wits. To quote Dark Helmet “I knew it. I’m surrounded by assholes!”

  26. Surprised that Obama didn’t bow to the Dalai Lama.  He’s bowed to everyone else but his own country.

  27. Does anyone here argue that he wasn’t shown out the side door past the trash so as not to offend the Chinese?  That was reported on NBC news.

I still haven’t found the cufflinks part although Rush reported it.  Nonetheless, it is plausible since we gave Gordon Brown those Netflix DVD’s that don’t play in the Euro zone.  I mean Obama has developed a reputation of giving dignitaries crap gifts.

  28. Rush made a joke, and now people think it’s true because the WH is full of idiots.

Here’s the real gift…a recalled Toyota. Kidding.

  29. A vast majority of Obama criticism is based on lies. Or as the right calls them, “jokes.”

  30. Wow… know your history, or at least research it like I did. The President gave the Dalai Lama a replica of the letter that Roosevelt sent him when he was 7 years old.

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20100219/ts_alt_afp/uschinatibetdiplomacyrightshistory

And along with that original letter came a gold rolex. IF the President gave the Dalai Lama cufflinks, maybe it was a humorous gag to go along with the replica letter. What use does the Dalai Lama have for a Rolex or cufflinks? But, there is NO evidence that he actually gave him the cufflinks anywhere other than a random blog entry that has gained a TON of momentum from idiots and people looking to bash our President. If he DID give him the cufflinks, I think it would be pretty funny and shows a good sense of humor for our President and the Dalai Lama.

  31. A vast majority of Obama criticism is based on lies. Or as the right calls them, “jokes.”

Actually, the vast majority of criticism comes from his abject failure to govern successfully. The only joke is that he was elected at all. Of course, according to the polls, people are starting to realize that by the millions. I suspect that this will turn out like the Carter Presidency, or the Perot campaign… at the end, only the few ideologues will even admit to having voted for out nit wit in chief, and Dr. Utopia will just become a bad memory.

Of course, his debt will likely stay with us for the next 50 years..
