Obama Bounce?

The Democrats are lowering expectations about an Obama bounce.

Aug. 29 (Bloomberg)—Barack Obama successfully used his convention speech to lay out the stakes for the November election and draw a contrast with Republican John McCain, though he may receive little or no bounce in the polls, the Democratic nominee’s chief strategist said.

  1. I think today’s announcement means that the Obama campaign would consider no change in the polls a strategic victory.

Whoever McCain’s media/PR consultants are, they’re fighter pilots, as the McCain campaign is clearly inside Obama’s OODA loop.  The myriad rapid response YouTube ads are clear evidence of that; now they’ve effectively sucked the air out of the post-convention bounce period.

I don’t know why, but when I heard it was Palin all I could think of was George C. Scott as Patton bellowing “Rommel you magnificent bastard, I read your book”.  Someone in the McCain campaign staff has been reading lots of books lately.

  2. Gallop’s daily tracking is showing Obama up by 8.  He was up by 6 yesterday.  Of course, that was before the news of today.

Polling over the Labor Day weekend will be unreliable, at best.  I’ll be interested to see what the numbers look like on about September 10th.
