November Looking Good for Republicans in Wisconsin

Interesting.

The results show that 51% of likely voters favored Thompson and 39% favored Feingold. Nine percent of the likely voters were undecided.

In a matchup between Feingold and Republican Madison developer Terrence Wall, Feingold leads 47% to 32%.

The poll was directed by political scientist Ken Goldstein of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The survey of 600 randomly selected likely voters in Wisconsin was conducted from March 7-9 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

In the governor’s race, Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker leads Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett 36% to 32%.The margin of error of the poll makes a Barrett-Walker race virtually even.

The gap between Walker and Republican home builder and former U.S. Rep. Mark Neumann is wider, with Walker leading Neumann by 19 percentage points (46% to 27%.)

Walker’s lead is aided by his large advantage in the Milwaukee media market, where nearly 7 in 10 likely voters said they support Walker over Neumann. In the rest of the state, Neumann held a slight edge over Walker.

In a head-to-head race between Barrett and Neumann, the results show that it’s a dead heat. Barrett and Neumann are tied at 34%.

Politics + Politics - Wisconsin

  1. I don’t care that Tommy’s a RINO.  He wouldn’t vote against the Patriot Act after 9-11.  And despite his flirtations with health care, he’s not voting for this bill.  Nor cap n trade.  Nor immigration amnesty.  Nor stimulus.

This poll shows those two unknown guys are going nowhere.  Tommy needs to jump in here.

  2. While walking from the Kohl Center in Madison last night, after watching the Badger Hockey team win their 1st playoff game, I overheard the 2 guys behind me talking about “Tommy”.  They both were saying they wanted him in the race because they thought he could beat Feingold.  I turned around, gave them the thumbs up sign and commented this was similar to the Farve watch - will he or won’t he.  We shared a chuckle and walked on.  THIS WAS IN MADISON - THE LIBERAL CAPITAL OF THE WORLD AND THEY WANTED TOMMY!!!!

  3. I thought the most interesting part of the poll was that Walker, Neumann, and Barrett all scored in the low 50’s on name ID, considering that all three have run for statewide office before and, but for a half-year respite in 2006, Walker’s basically been running for governor for 5-6 years.  Either our collective memories aren’t so good or nothing these candidates have done to date has been all that impressionable.  Looks like they still have lots of room to define themselves - and their opponents.

For perspective, contrast that to Tommy, Russ, and Doyle, who all score right around 90% on that same question.

  4. @kneenor - you’re talking about a very biased sample there. I mean this was a hockey game -  not a lot of liberals there. They actually keep score so there’s a winner & loser. And there’s hitting and violence.  wink

  5. It’s only March. November is a long way off.  Let’s not count our chickens yet.

  6. And what about the baggage? You know, the baggage. You guys forgot about the baggage, didn’t you. Many people like it that way.

Put yourself in Sue Ann’s shoes and ponder the baggage. That really wasn’t an issue when he ran for president because no one took him seriously. But if you were Sue Ann, would you sign off on a run for Senate? Can you see Russ pulling that old ad out of the vault, here’s my closet… no skeletons.

Some sleeping dogs need to be allowed to continue sleeping. Tommy ain’t gonna run.
