Heh.
Then on Tuesday, the worst happened: The levee burst and Gulfport was submerged in 10 feet of water. Only 28 property owners were insured against the damage.
“They all told us, `The levees are good. You can go ahead and build,’” said Parks, who did not buy flood coverage because her bank no longer required it. “We had so much confidence in those levees.”
Around the country, thousands of residents who relied on risk maps from the Federal Emergency Management Agency may unknowingly face similar dangers.
Did they not read the stories about the levies in New Orleans failing when Katrina hit? Any levee can fail.
I hope they learned to think for themselves and not rely on the government.
Owen, IMHO, “bummer” would have been a better leader than “heh.” It’s still gonna suck, but you don’t have to rub their noses in the muck.
Too bad some of them listened to their local government. This is just like the morons in Lake Delton that let a little spat over the floodplain map render the whole community ineligible for insurance.
Generally speaking, local government officials are the biggest morons on earth - even bigger than state and federal government officials.
