But Ryan is right.
Rep. Paul Ryan will be among the three dozen lawmakers at a White House health care summit Thursday.
Ryan, a Janesville Republican who has been vocal in his opposition to the Democrats’ reform plans, is attending the summit as a guest of House Republican Leader John Boehner.
Although he said he appreciated the invitation, Ryan expressed concern that the summit will be “more about showmanship than true bipartisanship.”
Well, then Ryan should take the high road and make meaningful efforts tomorrow to engage in bipartisanship.
No. The leftists should make an attempt to be “Bipartisan”. George: why is it only bipartisan when the GOP moves to the Left. What’s the problem with the statists and socialists moving?
Steve: First, please try to start a conversation without the accusational “leftists”, or the defensive questioning.
Read my comment: If Ryan is concerned that this won’t be bipartisan, I’ve merely suggested that he can take steps to help ensure that it is. Where did I say (or imply that it is “only bipartisan when the GOP moves to the Left”.
Why must you retort everything, turn it into a political rant, and be so aggressive? This is a conversation, not a fight.
I would listen to Ryan- who seems studied ,purposeful and consistent.
I will not listen to Boehner and the other so called ” conservative” hacks who now preach fiscal discipline but spent like drunken sailors when they had a chance.
Ryan’s proposals have merit- but he is still way more believing in corporate America’s goodness than I am .
The same business’s that Ryan plugs in to fix the system are currently raising prices 39% on small business’s .
We hoped the banks and financial institutions would look out for the little guy.
How did that work out for us?

There was this whole part of the government, including elected clowns both liberal and conservative, that was supposed to oversee and regulate the financial sector. They knew shenanigans were going on. They did nothing. Government failed yet again.
So yeah it didn’t work out so well having government and business in bed together but one of the changes we’ve gotten is….to…have government and business in bed together even more (see GM).
How’s that hope and change working out for us?
Ryan shouldn’t be going at all. It will be a show - anyone from the GOP that shows up will be used as political cover - see, the Republicans helped us! It’s their plan too!
Book it.

Calling a spade a spade, George. The Leftists and Statists in the Democrat party never move…..ever. In fact, I can’t think of any major legislation in maybe 20 years where the Left has moved toward the Right.

Beyond that, the regulations they placed upon banks required them to make risky loans… I still don’t understand why people put the blame on the banks for doing what they could (create dirivitives) to protect themselves from bad investments (mortgages to people who couldn’t pay them, as required by the political class).

Except that if they don’t show it will be used as a bludgeon against them in the 2010 elections. “See the Republicans aren’t even willing to talk about it.”
I think that the Republicans need to make it very clear to the president that the current plan NEEDS TO BE SCRAPPED, and that we need to try the less extreme, free market solutions before we begin denying people the right to remain uninsured if they so choose. I also think that the Republicans need to make it very clear that the “Republican ideas” that the president has included in this latest steaming pile are nothing but nods towards some ideas and inclusion of some that were nothing more than bait for democrats to begin with.
A CNN/ORC Poll says:
Two-thirds of Americans think that the Republicans in Congress are not doing enough to cooperate with President Obama
I’m sure Ryan is keeping that in mind given that this has been getting worse for Republicans over the past year.
I like the CNN poll where it shows 73% (yes, almost 3/4 of people) want this entire thing to go the hell away (either started from SCRATCH, or dropped entirely).
I have a feeling that the Republicans are looking better on this issue by saying “no” than the Democrats who are trying to take over something that the people don’t want them taking over.
What a cowardly cop out. Weak sauce.
Yes - but Free Lunch also intentionally leaves out the part where that same poll shows that the people think the Dems and President (as the party in power) should both reach out more and move more toward the Republican positions.
In other words, that whole “party of No” and “obstructionist” theme isn’t really sinking in as much as they’d hoped.
Sorry Charlie.
Just a few years ago Eric Cantor was praising reconciliation as a useful tool that ought to be employed more often to pass bills that are hopelessly tied up. Congress has spent more than enough time on this legislation. Pass it and move on already.
Someone who knows more about reconciliation than I do says it’s not going to happen.
And just a few years ago, Harry Reid was praising the importance of the filibuster as a means for the minority party to make the Senate more deliberative - especially when the House, Senate, and White House were all held by one party.
Make up your mind Joe….
Reconciliation is for budget bills… Not legislation.
Nice post, i found it very informative and really subjective… i hope it will benefit to other users like me…
What’s the update on the whole health care situation? Seems like a lot of work for some new taxes and maybe not a lot more people covered. Where does Ryan stand today?
Thanks.
It’s a fastidious and instructive article. Things are ordered wellspring. Get to bonk lot’s of thing which were not region to me. http://twitter.com/annarose27
