New New York Governor Confesses

New York is blessed with another pillar of the community

The thunderous applause was still ringing in his ears when the state’s new governor, David Paterson, told the Daily News that he and his wife had extramarital affairs.

In a stunning revelation, both Paterson, 53, and his wife, Michelle, 46, acknowledged in a joint interview they each had intimate relationships with others during a rocky period in their marriage several years ago.

[...]

Asked if he had used government or campaign funds to pay for any rendezvous with his former girlfriend, Paterson said he had not.

  1. Call me cynical, but to me it would have been more newsworthy if they had NOT had affairs.

It seems to me that the only reason these marriages survive after these affairs is because of the money, power, and fame the other partner brings to the table.—currently and in the future—and also the lifestyle they would have to give up by divorcing.

  2. If he is getting out ahead of this that is smart.  It’s a non-event with Spitzer still getting all the headlines

  3. I would have thought he would have claimed he didn’t know it wasn’t his wife.

  4. This is not on the level of the now former governor of NY. He didn’t do anything illegal (like hiring a bimbo to have sex with him) - he made a personal mistake and is owning up to it.

Since his wife also had an affair(s?) we can assume that they didn’t get divorced due to his political office and decided to see other people. He isn’t going to win any man of the year awards - but we are not in a position to judge him.

  5. The faster these politicos can redefine their behavior as normalcy, the less it will impact their chances of (re)election.

  6. Democratic sex scandals are so boring. Except for McGreevey I guess. Otherwise the GOP is where you go for entertainment and sheer insanity.
