New Dishwasher

No, we’re not having another kid… our old Whirlpool Gold dishwasher went out… again.  It’s the second time in less than a year.  Rather than get it fixed again, we decided to buy a new one.  It’ll be here on Tuesday.  I’m going to attempt installation by myself.  Wish me luck…

  1. Whirlpool?

You are going to have nothing but problems.

Does anyone know if Owen can still purchase an EnergyStar GE Profile?

Spotless dishes and cocktail glasses with Cascade phosphate-free dishwashing detergeant….

  2. Sorry for the confusing post… we’re not buying a new Whirlpool.  We’re done with that.

  3. We just bought a new (well, 1-year-used but new to us) Bosch this year and did a self-installation.  We were replacing a Kenmore.

Honestly, I thought it was really simple to hook up (and I’m not anything close to a handyman).  Our biggest problem was with the hose connecting to the dishwasher.  Bosch is European and Kenmore is American so the threading is different and we had to get an adapter at Menards for it.  Finding the right adapter was a big pain.

Also, the adapter between the hose and the dishwasher leaked at first.  I gunked it up with putty and stuck a rubber washer in it and it still had a slow drip.  However, after setting for 12 hours, it sealed up really well.

Not sure how helpful any of that gibberish was, but either way, good luck!

  7. You never know exactly why an appliance has continual problems.  If self installation voids any part of a warranty, it may be better to fork out the professional insatallation fee… said the guy with three left thumbs.  Yeah THREE!

  9. Thanks for the reminder.  I read through the requirements and I don’t think I need a permit.  I’ll call and make sure.

  10. I’m pretty sure you don’t need a permit. I just had an LG installed a few months ago (great dishwasher - super quiet)

However, watching all the crap they went through to install it - I’m glad I paid the extra $85 to have it done.
