Nagin for Guv

You gotta be kidding me.

New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin is seriously considering a Louisiana gubernatorial bid, a political intimate of Nagin tells CNN.

According to public records and his campaign treasurer, the two-term Democrat has raised more than a half-million dollars in campaign contributions since he was re-elected in 2006, even though Nagin can’t run for mayor again. (New Orleans limits mayors to two terms.)

If he wins governor, I move that we cut off all federal funds sent into Louisiana.

  1. Um Owen if you say something as bold as cutting off funds for Louisiana if Nagin got elected would it hurt to say why. I mean he seamed to do a pretty good job for his city during Katrina pushing for help and Federal funds what makes him such a bad person. I mean if you don’t want a Democrat to win in Lousiana I don’t get it because there are lots of Democrats what makes him so bad. Please be a little less vague.

  2. I move that we cut off federal aid to Louisiana regardless of who wins.

  3. Demboy08,

    Get a sense of humor.

And no, he didn’t “do a pretty good job for his city during Katrina.”  He failed miserably in preparing and executing contingency plans, then tried to place the blame everywhere else.

  4. If Nagin survives the runoff, then the Louisiana Democratic Party is a rudderless ship captained by his and current Governor Blanco’s incompetence.

Bobby Jindal, the only Republican running so far - a Congressman from the surrounding NOLA area of Indian decent who lost his home in Katrina - might as well start measuring the drapes if he has to face Nagin.

That link above shows Nagin with just a 19% approval rating…in New Orleans!

  5. Iagree with Governor Blanco’s incompetence but from what I heard he ha really high approval ratings right after Katrina. I’m guessing they dippedbecause New Orleans can’t recover because its not getting the Federal funding it needs last I checked they haven’t really gotten all the necessary money.

  6. # 8
Mike McGee -Jackson-whatever Jr. Also has a high approval rating.
And no I’m not saying Mayor Nagin is any sort of crook. High approval doesn’t always mean effective. Does mean that he might have electability issues.

  7. Has there ever been a good choice for governor of Louisiana?  Anyone recall the Edwards vs. Duke race of ‘91—the corrupt former governor against the former klan leader?  My sister, a resident of Louisiana at the time, voted for Edwards and then joined the recall effort

  9. Because I married an LSU grad. I’ve been to Nola through Miss both before and after Katrina. There’s a lot of blame to go around about Katrina.  My stepson and his roommates sheltered 20 people in their three BR apartmant in Baton Rouge.

Nagin fled for months at a time after the hurricane.  He would be be slaughtered for Governor in both the Baptist North and the Cajun South. My money is on Insurance Commissioner Kennedy to win the Dem nomination if he seeks it.  Almost everyone in Lousiana seems to think it is Jindahl’s race to lose.

Hard hit St Bernard Parish, so often flooded in history, is almost all new now. Rebuilding the 9th Ward is slower because many houses were transferred between generations and there isn’t clear title.

Compare Kathleen Blanco’s actions to Haley Barbour’s.  She looked to blame others. He delivered supplies. He will be reelected. Mississippi and Lousisiana both have weird election cycles which mean they will elect a Governor THIS year, not next.

  10. How pathetic are you, Demboy08?  Can’t New Orleans do anything by themselves?  To continue to blame the feds for what is going on NOLA, is such a cop out.  And I suppose the feds are causing all the murders and crimes down there now?
