Must Have Guns

Firearms and Freedom has posted his “must have” list of guns.  Here it is:

12 ga pump shotgun. (Remington 870)

.22 rifle (Ruger 10/22. This is one where I specifically recommend this model over others, at least to start the collection with)

A large frame centerfire handgun (S&W K frame, full size Glock, 1911)

A small frame centerfire handgun (S&W J Frame, compact Glock, Bersa Thunder)

An AR-15 or AK-47

A large caliber rifle (Model 700 in .308 or 30-06, milsurp bolt action)

A .22 handgun (Ruger MKII/MKIII, Walther P22)

I agree… that’s a good start.  I would add the following to a “must have” collection:

- a 410 shotgun

- a 50 cal muzzle loader

- a nice 30/30 lever action rifle

Have any other “must haves?”

  1. Hmm…

My idea of a “well rounded” collection:

-12 gauge (everyone needs a street sweeper) pump or semi-auto… of if you are really classy a nice double barrel citori. And you can always drop a slug in.

-22 LR (what could be so cheap and so fun to shoot) (ok, a hi powered pellet gun)

-Air Rifle (something that shoots 1000+FPS) where else can you blow off 250 rounds for 2 bucks.

    - Hi-Cap Semi-Auto handgun something between 9mm and .45acp

-a good conceal gun (airweight, kimber ultra cpd, something like that)

-Revolver,  Everyone needs a revolver.  Something primal about a wheel gun.  DA preferably

-EBR Gotta have something to piss off the Brady Bunch and they are so fun to mod.

A BFG.  Everyone should have one BFG.  Something rediculous.  An M107 or anything that shoots 50 bmg.  Or maybe a t-rex

  2. To your list of small frame centerfire handguns I would add any of the 3” 1911 variants that are out there now in 9mm.  I have the Springfield Armory EMP-extremely concealable, light, accurate and above all reliable.  The reason this is such an excellent choice is that the 1911 platform is very thin compared to any of the Glocks or revolvers making it much easier to conceal.

Other than that it’s a pretty good list for someone to start their collection with.

  3. I agree.  The 1911 is such a standard.  Its almost a given a collection should have one.  (of course I don’t but) :(

  4. Looks good to me, though I have to say I chose the ability to arm a friend with a carbine over the ownership of a shotgun.  I might say that you can expand the AR-15/AK-47 family to include the AK-74 and any 5.56/.223 carbine that can take AR-15 mags.

Were we to expand that list to include purchases now (generally) prohibited by law, I would say the neighborhood watch captain should probable make sure at least someone on the block has a LMG or GPMG… heck, for the time being, if someone out their owns a pig (M60) you could put the whole block on the NFA trust to stay legal!

    Word Verification: ar15ms wink

  5. I love playing need it got it lol

I think the key is also to try and keep your calibers to a minimum

my pistol and carbine both shoot .40sw I only deal in 12 gauge shoot guns I only have assualt rifles that shoot 7.62x39mm

That way one ammo can can feed a number of guns.

as I told my friend when helping him pick out his AK you do not need to buy a “AR-15/M16 type rifle when society falls apart you can just pick one up off the ground they will there for the taking wink

For little rifles I would add the .17hmr a powerful little round a nice complement to your .22lr

totally agree with the 30-06 greatest utility round every conceived You could safely drop any animal found on North America with that round.  Plus holds it own against the two legged animals also wink

  7. Excellent collection Owen. I’ve been looking at getting either a 7mm or a 30-06. Anyone have any suggestion as to what manufacturer they would recommend?

Thinking about getting a good handgun as well. Something for personal defense, but mostly for deer hunting as well. Glock is an obvious choice, but I’m open to suggestions.

I have a plethora of shotguns - my favorite being my over/under citori. Good solid piece I can use for anytype of upland game and in a pinch when I have loaned my slug gun out, I’ve use it as a slug gun as well.

I’ve never liked semi auto shotguns. They jam too much and I can work a pump just as fast.

  8. I guess I’ll have to get a 12ga.

However, like Chris, I don’t see a “need” to purchase an AR—they’ll be available if the SHTF.  And since you can’t purchase one (nor ammo) these days due to Obama’s election, that’s fine with me.

  9. In a SHTF scenerio my 1911’s would be left behind.  I own much more practical and much more universal handguns.  (let the flames start).

The list is pretty darn good.  If you don’t have the money to buy the entire list then a 12 gauge pump is the very least you need.

It will serve the same purpose of every other gun on the list.  You can hunt game as small as squirrel, bird and all the way up to deer.  You can fend off 2 legged varmints and ammo would be commonly available.

  10. Stock up on ammo too.  The clowns in D.C. are going to make it hard to get and expensive.  Get a good gun safe as the goblins will be robbing houses when Omama and socialism gives us a permanent recession.

  11. For a 30-06 I recomend a Savage Model 111.  I bought one about 15 years ago and I have never once had a problem with it.
