Even as they ended a marathon meeting at 3 a.m. Nov. 2 that brought a 5-3 vote to raise the schools’ portion of the property tax levy by 9%, board members and administrators were saying they will need to make tougher choices and bigger cuts. Prospects for another substantial property tax increase also look strong.
“Now we know what the rules are,” Superintendent William Andrekopoulos said. “What the rules are is, it’s going to be very difficult to take in any new money at all.”
Andrekopoulos said he hoped to begin discussions with the School Board before the end of the month on how to proceed. Among steps that might be considered: More school closings and cutbacks in the still-extensive system for busing.
Tough choices like cutting travel?
Plain and simple, they don’t have a clue. I mentioned that on some liberal blog that was trying to rationalize the spending and the best they could come up with was, “9 Billion lost on Iraq”.
